²⁶ While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it^(A) and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”

²⁷ Then he took a cup,^(B) and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. ²⁸ This is my blood of the^[a] covenant,^(C) which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.^(D)

²⁴ “This is my blood of the^[a] covenant,^(C) which is poured out for many,” he said to them.

¹⁶ Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break^(A) a participation in the body of Christ?^(B)

⁷ To purify them, do this: Sprinkle the water of cleansing^(A) on them; then have them shave their whole bodies^(B) and wash their clothes.^(C) And so they will purify themselves.^(D)

¹⁶ Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.^(A)

²⁶ When the centurion heard this, he went to the commander and reported it. “What are you going to do?” he asked. “This man is a Roman citizen.”
