The Lord’s Supper Instituted

²⁶^(A)Now while they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and ^[a]^(B)after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” ²⁷And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; ²⁸for ^(C)this is My blood of the covenant, which is being poured out for ^(D)many for forgiveness of sins. ²⁹But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it with you, new, in My Father’s kingdom.”

³⁰^(E)And after singing a ^[b]hymn, they went out to ^(F)the Mount of Olives.

²³For ^(A)I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that ^(B)the Lord Jesus, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread; ²⁴and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” ²⁵In the same way He also took ^(C)the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the ^(D)new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” ²⁶For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death ^(E)until He comes.

²⁷Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy way, shall be ^(F)guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. ²⁸But a person must ^(G)examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
