Parable of the Fig Tree

32 “Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near; 33 so, you too, when you see all these things, [a]recognize that [b]He is near, right (A)at the [c]door. 34 Truly I say to you, (B)this [d]generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 35 (C)Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

36 “But (D)of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. 37 For [e]the (E)coming of the Son of Man will be (F)just like the days of Noah. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, (G)marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that (H)Noah entered the ark, 39 and they did not [f]understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the (I)coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then there will be two men in the field; one [g]will be taken and one [h]will be left. 41 (J)Two women will be grinding at the [i](K)mill; one [j]will be taken and one [k]will be left.

Be Ready for His Coming

42 “Therefore (L)be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. 43 But [l]be sure of this, that (M)if the head of the house had known (N)at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be [m]broken into. 44 For this reason (O)you also must be ready; for (P)the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.

45 (Q)Who then is the (R)faithful and (S)sensible slave whom his [n]master (T)put in charge of his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 Blessed is that slave whom his [o]master finds so doing when he comes. 47 Truly I say to you that (U)he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48 But if that evil slave says in his heart, ‘My [p]master [q]is not coming for a long time,’ 49 and begins to beat his fellow slaves and eat and drink with drunkards; 50 the [r]master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour which he does not know, 51 and will [s]cut him in pieces and [t]assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be (V)weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Blessedness of Forgiveness and of Trust in God.

A Psalm of David. A [a]Maskil.

32 (A)How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered!
How blessed is the man to whom the Lord (B)does not impute iniquity,
And in whose spirit there is (C)no deceit!

When (D)I kept silent about my sin, (E)my [b]body wasted away
Through my [c](F)groaning all day long.
For day and night (G)Your hand was heavy upon me;
My [d](H)vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. [e]Selah.
I (I)acknowledged my sin to You,
And my iniquity I (J)did not hide;
I said, “(K)I will confess my transgressions to the Lord”;
And You (L)forgave the [f]guilt of my sin. Selah.
Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to You [g](M)in a time when You may be found;
Surely (N)in a flood of great waters they will not reach him.
You are (O)my hiding place; You (P)preserve me from trouble;
You surround me with [h](Q)songs of deliverance. Selah.

I will (R)instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go;
I will counsel you (S)with My eye upon you.
Do not be (T)as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding,
Whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check,
Otherwise they will not come near to you.
10 Many are the (U)sorrows of the wicked,
But (V)he who trusts in the Lord, lovingkindness shall surround him.
11 Be (W)glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous ones;
And shout for joy, all you who are (X)upright in heart.
