²³ At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it.^(A)

²⁶ “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. ²⁷ For as lightning^(A) that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming^(B) of the Son of Man.^(C)

³⁷ As it was in the days of Noah,^(A) so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. ³⁸ For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage,^(B) up to the day Noah entered the ark; ³⁹ and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.^(C)

¹⁷ Let no one on the housetop^(A) go down to take anything out of the house. ¹⁸ Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak.

³⁹ Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.^(A)

⁴⁰ Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left.^{(A) 41} Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.^(B)

²⁸ Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.^(A)

¹⁹ because those will be days of distress unequaled from the beginning, when God created the world,^(A) until now—and never to be equaled again.^(B)

²⁰ “If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them. ²¹ At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it.^{(C) 22} For false messiahs and false prophets^(D) will appear and perform signs and wonders^(E) to deceive, if possible, even the elect. ²³ So be on your guard;^(F) I have told you everything ahead of time.

¹⁴ “When you see ‘the abomination that causes desolation’^[a](A) standing where it^[b] does not belong—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. ¹⁵ Let no one on the housetop go down or enter the house to take anything out. ¹⁶ Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak.
