The Parable of the Wedding Feast(A)
22 And Jesus answered (B)and spoke to them again by parables and said: 2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, 3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. 4 Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; (C)my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.” ’ 5 But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. 6 And the rest seized his servants, treated them [a]spitefully, and killed them. 7 But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out (D)his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 8 Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not (E)worthy. 9 Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’ 10 So those servants went out into the highways and (F)gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there (G)who did not have on a wedding garment. 12 So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was (H)speechless. 13 Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, [b]take him away, and cast him (I)into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
14 (J)“For many are called, but few are chosen.”
The Pharisees: Is It Lawful to Pay Taxes to Caesar?(K)
15 (L)Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk. 16 And they sent to Him their disciples with the (M)Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not [c]regard the person of men. 17 Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”
18 But Jesus [d]perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? 19 Show Me the tax money.”
So they brought Him a denarius.
20 And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?”
21 They said to Him, “Caesar’s.”
And He said to them, (N)“Render[e] therefore to Caesar the things that are (O)Caesar’s, and to God the things that are (P)God’s.” 22 When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left Him and went their way.
The Sadducees: What About the Resurrection?(Q)
23 (R)The same day the Sadducees, (S)who say there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him, 24 saying: “Teacher, (T)Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. 25 Now there were with us seven brothers. The first died after he had married, and having no offspring, left his wife to his brother. 26 Likewise the second also, and the third, even to the seventh. 27 Last of all the woman died also. 28 Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.”
29 Jesus answered and said to them, “You are [f]mistaken, (U)not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but (V)are like angels [g]of God in heaven. 31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, 32 (W)‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.” 33 And when the multitudes heard this, (X)they were astonished at His teaching.

34 (Z)But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 Then one of them, (AA)a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, (AB)“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: (AC)‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 (AD)On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
Jesus: How Can David Call His Descendant Lord?(AE)
41 (AF)While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42 saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?”
They said to Him, “The (AG)Son of David.”
43 He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying:
44 ‘The(AH) Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool” ’?
45 If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his Son?” 46 (AI)And no one was able to answer Him a word, (AJ)nor from that day on did anyone dare question Him anymore.

A Story about a Wedding Reception
22 Again Yeshua used stories as illustrations when he spoke to them. He said, 2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who planned a wedding for his son. 3 He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the wedding, but they refused to come. 4 He sent other servants to tell the people who had been invited, ‘I’ve prepared dinner. My bulls and fattened calves have been butchered. Everything is ready. Come to the wedding!’
5 “But they paid no attention and went away. Some went to work in their own fields, and others went to their businesses. 6 The rest grabbed the king’s servants, mistreated them, and then killed them.
7 “The king became angry. He sent his soldiers, killed those murderers, and burned their city.
8 “Then the king said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited don’t deserve the honor. 9 Go where the roads leave the city. Invite everyone you find to the wedding.’ 10 The servants went into the streets and brought in all the good people and all the evil people they found. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 “When the king came to see the guests, he saw a person who was not dressed in the wedding clothes provided for the guests. 12 He said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without proper wedding clothes?’
“The man had nothing to say. 13 Then the king told his servants, ‘Tie his hands and feet, and throw him outside into the darkness. People will cry and be in extreme pain there.’
14 “Therefore, many are invited, but few of those are chosen to stay.”
A Question about Taxes(A)
15 Then the Pharisees went away and planned to trap Yeshua into saying the wrong thing. 16 They sent their disciples to him along with Herod’s followers. They said to him, “Teacher, we know that you tell the truth and that you teach the truth about the way of God. You don’t favor individuals because of who they are. 17 So tell us what you think. Is it right to pay taxes to the emperor or not?”
18 Yeshua recognized their evil plan, so he asked, “Why do you test me, you hypocrites? 19 Show me a coin used to pay taxes.”
They brought him a coin. 20 He said to them, “Whose face and name is this?”
21 They replied, “The emperor’s.”
Then he said to them, “Very well, give the emperor what belongs to the emperor, and give God what belongs to God.”
22 They were surprised to hear this. Then they left him alone and went away.
The Dead Come Back to Life(B)
23 On that day some Sadducees, who say that people will never come back to life, came to Yeshua. They asked him, 24 “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies childless, his brother should marry his widow and have children for his brother.’ 25 There were seven brothers among us. The first married and died. Since he had no children, he left his widow to his brother. 26 The second brother also died, as well as the third, and the rest of the seven brothers. 27 At last the woman died. 28 Now, when the dead come back to life, whose wife will she be? All seven brothers had been married to her.”
29 Yeshua answered, “You’re mistaken because you don’t know the Scriptures or God’s power. 30 When people come back to life, they don’t marry. Rather, they are like the angels in heaven. 31 Haven’t you read what God told you about the dead coming back to life? He said, 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.’ He’s not the God of the dead but of the living.”
33 He amazed the crowds who heard his teaching.
Love God and Your Neighbor(C)
34 When the Pharisees heard that Yeshua had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 One of them, an expert in Moses’ Teachings, tested Yeshua by asking, 36 “Teacher, which commandment is the greatest in Moses’ Teachings?”
37 Yeshua answered him, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the greatest and most important commandment. 39 The second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ 40 All of Moses’ Teachings and the Prophets depend on these two commandments.”
How Can David’s Son Be David’s Lord?(D)
41 While the Pharisees were still gathered, Yeshua asked them, 42 “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?”
They answered him, “David’s.”
43 He said to them, “Then how can David, guided by the Spirit, call him Lord? David says,
44 ‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Take the highest position in heaven
until I put your enemies under your control.”’
45 If David calls him Lord, how can he be his son?”
46 No one could answer him, and from that time on no one dared to ask him another question.

Parábola del banquete de bodas
22 Jesús volvió a hablarles en parábolas, y les dijo: 2 «El reino de los cielos es como un rey que preparó un banquete de bodas para su hijo. 3 Mandó a sus siervos que llamaran a los invitados, pero estos se negaron a asistir al banquete. 4 Nuevamente mandó a otros siervos y les ordenó: “Decid a los invitados que ya he preparado mi comida: Ya han matado mis bueyes y mis reses engordadas, y todo está listo. Venid al banquete de bodas”. 5 Pero ellos no hicieron caso y se fueron: uno a su campo, otro a su negocio. 6 Los demás agarraron a los siervos, los maltrataron y los mataron. 7 El rey se enfureció. Mandó su ejército a destruir a los asesinos y a incendiar su ciudad. 8 Luego dijo a sus siervos: “El banquete de bodas está preparado, pero los que invité no merecían venir. 9 Id al cruce de los caminos e invitad al banquete a todos los que encontréis”. 10 Así que los siervos salieron a los caminos y reunieron a todos los que pudieron encontrar, buenos y malos, y se llenó de invitados el salón de bodas.
11 »Cuando el rey entró a ver a los invitados, notó que allí había un hombre que no estaba vestido con el traje de boda. 12 “Amigo, ¿cómo entraste aquí sin el traje de boda?”, le dijo. El hombre se quedó callado. 13 Entonces el rey dijo a los sirvientes: “Atadlo de pies y manos, y echadlo afuera, a la oscuridad, donde habrá llanto y rechinar de dientes”. 14 Porque muchos son los invitados, pero pocos los escogidos».
El pago de impuestos al césar(A)
15 Entonces salieron los fariseos y tramaron cómo tenderle a Jesús una trampa con sus mismas palabras. 16 Enviaron algunos de sus discípulos junto con los herodianos, los cuales le dijeron:
―Maestro, sabemos que eres un hombre íntegro y que enseñas el camino de Dios de acuerdo con la verdad. No te dejas influir por nadie porque no te fijas en las apariencias. 17 Danos tu opinión: ¿Está permitido pagar impuestos al césar o no?
18 Conociendo sus malas intenciones, Jesús replicó:
―¡Hipócritas! ¿Por qué me tendéis trampas? 19 Mostradme la moneda para el impuesto.
Y se la enseñaron.[a]
20 ―¿De quién son esta imagen y esta inscripción? —les preguntó.
21 ―Del césar —respondieron.
―Entonces dadle al césar lo que es del césar y a Dios lo que es de Dios.
22 Al oír esto, se quedaron asombrados. Así que lo dejaron y se fueron.
El matrimonio en la resurrección(B)
23 Ese mismo día los saduceos, que decían que no hay resurrección, se le acercaron y le plantearon un problema:
24 ―Maestro, Moisés nos enseñó que, si un hombre muere sin tener hijos, el hermano de ese hombre tiene que casarse con la viuda para que su hermano tenga descendencia. 25 Pues bien, había entre nosotros siete hermanos. El primero se casó y murió y, como no tuvo hijos, dejó la esposa a su hermano. 26 Lo mismo les pasó al segundo y al tercer hermano, y así hasta llegar al séptimo. 27 Por último, murió la mujer. 28 Ahora bien, en la resurrección, ¿de cuál de los siete será esposa esta mujer, ya que todos estuvieron casados con ella?
29 Jesús les contestó:
―Andáis equivocados porque desconocéis las Escrituras y el poder de Dios. 30 En la resurrección, las personas no se casarán ni serán dadas en casamiento, sino que serán como los ángeles que están en el cielo. 31 Pero, en cuanto a la resurrección de los muertos, ¿no habéis leído lo que os dijo Dios: 32 “Yo soy el Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Jacob”?[b] Él no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos.
33 Al oír esto, la gente quedó admirada de su enseñanza.
El mandamiento más importante(C)
34 Los fariseos se reunieron al oír que Jesús había hecho callar a los saduceos. 35 Uno de ellos, experto en la ley, le tendió una trampa con esta pregunta:
36 ―Maestro, ¿cuál es el mandamiento más importante de la ley?
37 ―“Ama al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con todo tu ser y con toda tu mente”[c] —le respondió Jesús—. 38 Este es el primero y el más importante de los mandamientos. 39 El segundo se parece a este: “Ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo”.[d] 40 De estos dos mandamientos dependen toda la ley y los profetas.
¿De quién es hijo el Cristo?(D)
41 Mientras estaban reunidos los fariseos, Jesús les preguntó:
42 ―¿Qué pensáis acerca del Cristo? ¿De quién es hijo?
―De David —le respondieron ellos.
43 ―Entonces, ¿cómo es que David, hablando por el Espíritu, lo llama “Señor”? Él afirma:
44 »“Dijo el Señor a mi Señor:
‘Siéntate a mi derecha,
hasta que ponga a tus enemigos
debajo de tus pies’ ”.[e]
45 Si David lo llama “Señor”, ¿cómo puede entonces ser su hijo?»
46 Nadie pudo responderle ni una sola palabra, y desde ese día ninguno se atrevía a hacerle más preguntas.
