Matthew 22
Disciples’ Literal New Testament
22 1 And having responded, Jesus again spoke in parables to them, saying, 2 “The kingdom of the heavens became-like[a] a man who was a king, who made wedding-celebrations for his son. 3 And he sent out his slaves to call the ones having been invited[b] to the wedding-celebrations, and they were not willing to come. 4 Again he sent out other slaves saying, ‘Say to the ones having been invited, “Behold— I have prepared my luncheon[c], my bulls and fatted-cattle having been slaughtered, and everything is prepared. Come to the wedding-celebrations”’. 5 But the ones, having paid-no-concern[d], departed— one to his own field, and another on his business. 6 And the rest, having seized his slaves, mistreated them and killed them. 7 And the king became angry[e]. And having sent his troops, he destroyed those murderers and set their city on fire. 8 Then he says to his slaves, ‘The wedding-celebration is prepared— but the ones having been invited were not worthy! 9 Therefore go to the outlets[f] of the roads, and invite all-that you find to the wedding-celebrations’. 10 And having gone out into the roads, those slaves gathered-together all whom they found, both evil[g] and good. And the wedding-hall was filled with ones reclining-back [to eat]. 11 And the king, having come in to see[h] the ones reclining-back [to eat], saw there a person not having dressed-in[i] the clothing of [j] a wedding. 12 And he says to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here, not having the clothing of a wedding?’ But the one was silenced. 13 Then the king said to the servants, ‘Having bound his feet and hands, throw him out, into the outer darkness’. In that place, there will be the weeping and the grinding of teeth. 14 For many are called ones, but few are chosen ones”.
The Pharisees Try To Snare Jesus: Shall We Pay Taxes To Caesar?
15 Then the Pharisees, having gone, took counsel so that they might snare Him in a statement. 16 And they send-forth their disciples to Him, with the Herodians[k], saying, “Teacher, we know that You are truthful, and You teach the way of God in truth. And You are not concerned about [pleasing] anyone, for You do not look at the face[l] of people. 17 Tell us then, what seems right to You? Is it lawful to give a poll-tax[m] to Caesar, or not?” 18 But having known their evilness[n], Jesus said, “Why are you testing Me, hypocrites? 19 Show Me the coin for the poll-tax”. And the ones brought to Him a denarius[o]. 20 And He says to them, “Whose is this image and inscription?” 21 They say to Him, “Caesar’s”. Then He says to them, “Then give-back[p] the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God”. 22 And having heard it, they marveled. And having left Him, they went away.
The Sadducees Try To Snare Jesus On The Resurrection of a Wife With Seven Husbands
23 On that day Sadducees came to Him— ones saying that there is not a resurrection. And they questioned Him, 24 saying, “Teacher, Moses said [in Deut 25:5] ‘If someone dies not having children, his brother shall as-next-of-kin-marry[q] his wife and raise-up a seed[r] for his brother’. 25 Now there were seven brothers with us. And the first, having married, came-to-an-end[s]. And not having a seed, he left his wife to his brother. 26 Likewise also the second, and the third, up to the seventh. 27 And last of all, the woman died. 28 In the resurrection, therefore, of which of the seven will she be the wife? For they all had her!” 29 But having responded, Jesus said to them, “You are mistaken[t], not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection, they neither marry nor are given-in-marriage, but are like angels[u] in heaven. 31 And concerning the resurrection of the dead, did you not read the thing having been spoken to you by God[v], saying [in Ex 3:15] 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of dead ones, but of living ones”. 33 And having heard it, the crowds were astounded at His teaching.
A Scribe Tests Jesus: Which Is The Great Commandment?
34 And the Pharisees, having heard that He silenced the Sadducees, were gathered-together at the same place. 35 And one of them, a Law-expert, asked Him— testing Him— 36 “Teacher, which is the great[w] commandment in the Law?” 37 And the One said to him: “‘You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole mind’ [Deut 6:5]— 38 this is the great and foremost[x] commandment. 39 And the second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself’ [Lev 19:18]. 40 The whole Law and the Prophets hang[y] on these two commandments”.
Jesus Asks The Pharisees, If David Calls The Messiah His Lord, How Can He Be His Son?
41 Now the Pharisees having[z] been gathered-together, Jesus questioned them, 42 saying, “What seems right to you concerning the Christ— Whose son is He?” They say to Him, “David’s”. 43 He says to them, “How then does David by[aa] the Spirit call Him ‘Lord’, saying [in Ps 110:1], 44 ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Be sitting on My right side, until I put Your enemies under Your feet”’? 45 Therefore if David calls Him ‘Lord’, how[ab] is He his son?” 46 And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor did anyone dare from that day to question Him any more.

Mateo 22

Matthew 22
International Standard Version
The Parable about a Banquet(A)
22 Again Jesus spoke to them in parables. He said, 2 “The kingdom from[a] heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son. 3 He sent his servants to call those who had been invited to the wedding, but they refused to come. 4 So[b] he sent other servants after saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited, “Look! I’ve prepared my dinner. My oxen and fattened calves have been slaughtered. Everything is ready. Come to the wedding!”’ 5 But they paid no attention to this and went away, one to his farm, another to his business. 6 The rest grabbed the king’s[c] servants, treated them brutally, and then killed them. 7 Then the king became outraged. He sent his troops, and they destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
8 “Then he told his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. 9 So go into the roads leading out of town and invite as many people as you can find to the wedding.’ 10 Those servants went out into the streets and brought in everyone they found, evil and good alike, and the wedding hall was packed with guests.
11 “When the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. 12 He asked him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But the man[d] was speechless. 13 Then the king told his servants, ‘Tie his hands and feet, and throw him into the darkness outside!’ In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth,[e] 14 because many are invited, but few are chosen.”
A Question about Paying Taxes(B)
15 Then the Pharisees went and planned how to trap Jesus[f] in conversation. 16 They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians.[g] They said, “Teacher, we know that you are sincere and that you teach the way of God truthfully. You don’t favor any individual, because you pay no attention to external appearance. 17 So tell us what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
18 Recognizing their wickedness, Jesus asked, “Why are you testing me, you hypocrites? 19 Show me the coin used for the tax.”
They brought him a denarius.[h] 20 Then he asked them, “Whose face and name is this?”
21 They told him, “Caesar’s.”
So he told them, “Then give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
22 When they heard this, they were amazed. Then they left him and went away.
A Question about the Resurrection(C)
23 That same day some Sadducees, who claim there is no resurrection, came to Jesus[i] and asked him, 24 “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies having no children, his brother must marry the widow and have children for his brother.’[j] 25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his widow to his brother. 26 The same thing happened with the second brother, and then the third, and finally with the rest of the brothers.[k] 27 Finally, the woman died, too. 28 Now in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be, since all of them had married[l] her?”
29 Jesus answered them, “You are mistaken because you don’t know the Scriptures or God’s power, 30 because in the resurrection, people[m] neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like the angels[n] in heaven. 31 As for the resurrection from the dead, haven’t you read what was spoken to you by God when he said, 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?[o] He[p] is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”
33 When the crowds heard this, they were amazed at his teaching.
The Greatest Commandment(D)
34 When the Pharisees heard that Jesus[q] had silenced the Sadducees, they met together in the same place. 35 One of them, an expert in the Law, tested him by asking, 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus[r] told him, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’[s] 38 This is the greatest and most important[t] commandment. 39 The second is exactly like it: ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’[u] 40 All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commandments.”
A Question about David’s Son(E)
41 While the Pharisees were still[v] gathered, Jesus asked them, 42 “What do you think about the Messiah?[w] Whose son is he?”
They told him, “David’s.”
43 He asked them, “Then how can David by the Spirit call him ‘Lord’ when he says,
44 ‘The Lord[x] told my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,
until I put your enemies under your feet.”’?[y]
45 If David calls him ‘Lord’, how can he be his son?”
46 No one could answer him at all,[z] and from that day on no one dared to ask him another question.

Matthew 22
1599 Geneva Bible
22 2 The parable of the marriage. 9 The calling of the Gentiles. 11 The wedding garments, faith. 16 Of Caesar’s tribute. 23 They question with Christ touching the resurrection. 32 God is of the living. 36 The greatest commandment. 37 To love God. 39 To love our neighbor. 42 Jesus reasoneth with the Pharisees touching the Messiah.
1 Then (A)[a]Jesus answered, and spake unto them again in parables, saying,
2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king which married his son,
3 And sent forth his servants, to call them that were bidden to the wedding, but they would not come.
4 Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: mine oxen and my fatlings are [b]killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, and another about his merchandise.
6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them sharply, and slew them.
7 [c]But when the king heard it, he was wroth, and sent forth his warriors, and destroyed those murderers, and burnt up their city.
8 Then said he to his servants, Truly the [d]wedding is prepared: but they which were bidden, were not worthy.
9 [e]Go ye therefore out into the highways, and as many as ye find, bid them to the marriage.
10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all that ever they found, both good and [f]bad: so the wedding was furnished with guests.
11 [g]Then the king came in, to see the guests, and saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment.
12 And he said unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither, and hast not on a wedding garment? And he was [h]speechless.
13 Then said the king to the [i]servants, Bind him hand and foot: take him away, and cast him into utter darkness: (B)there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
14 (C)For many are called, but few chosen.
15 ¶ (D)Then went the Pharisees and took counsel how they might [j]tangle him in talk.
16 And they sent unto him their disciples with the [k]Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God [l]truly, neither carest for any man: for thou considerest not the [m]person of men.
17 [n]Tell us therefore, how thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give [o]tribute unto Caesar, or not?
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?
19 Show me the tribute money. And they brought him a [p]penny.
20 And he said unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?
21 They said unto him, Caesar’s. Then said he unto them, (E)Give therefore to Caesar, the things which are Caesar’s, and give unto God, those things which are God’s.
22 And when they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went their way.
23 ¶ (F)[q]The same day the Sadducees came to him, (which say that there is no resurrection) and asked him,
24 Saying, Master, (G)Moses said, If a man die, having no [r]children, his brother shall marry his wife by the right of alliance, and raise up seed unto his brother.
25 Now therefore were with us seven brethren, and the first married a wife, and deceased: and having no issue, left his wife unto his brother.
26 Likewise also the second, and the third, unto the seventh.
27 And last of all the woman died also.
28 Therefore in the resurrection, whose wife shall she be of the seven? for all had her.
29 Then Jesus answered, and said unto them, Ye are deceived, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry wives, nor wives are bestowed in marriage, but are as the [s]Angels of God in heaven.
31 And concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read what is spoken unto you of God, saying,
32 (H)I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
33 And when the multitude heard it, they were astonied at his doctrine.
34 ¶ (I)[t]But when the Pharisees had heard, that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they assembled together.
35 And [u]one of them, which was an expounder of the Law, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the Law?
37 Jesus said to him, (J)Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, with all thy [v]soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and the great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto this, (K)Thou shalt love thy [w]neighbor as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hangeth the whole Law and the Prophets.
41 ¶(L)[x]While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? [y]whose son is he? They said unto him, David’s.
43 He said unto them, How then doth David in spirit, call him Lord, saying,
44 (M)The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
45 If then David call him Lord, how is he his son?
46 And none could answer him a word, neither durst any from that day forth ask him any more questions.
