Jesus: How Can David Call His Descendant Lord?^(A)

^41 (B)While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, ⁴² saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?”

They said to Him, “The ^(C)Son of David.”

⁴³ He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying:

⁴⁵ If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his Son?” ^46 (E)And no one was able to answer Him a word, ^(F)nor from that day on did anyone dare question Him anymore.

^11 (A)since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. Also the Lord ^[a]tells you ^(B)that He will make you a ^[b]house.

^12 (C)“When your days are fulfilled and you ^(D)rest with your fathers, ^(E)I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. ^13 (F)He shall build a house for My name, and I will ^(G)establish the throne of his kingdom forever. ^14 (H)I will be his Father, and he shall be ^(I)My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the ^[c]blows of the sons of men. ¹⁵ But My mercy shall not depart from him, ^(J)as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. ¹⁶ And ^(K)your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before ^[d]you. Your throne shall be established forever.” ’ ”
