³⁶ “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”

³⁷ Jesus said to him, ^(A)“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ ³⁸ This is the first and great commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like it: ^(B)‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

^14 (A)“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. ¹⁵ Nor do they ^(B)light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. ¹⁶ Let your light so shine before men, ^(C)that they may see your good works and ^(D)glorify your Father in heaven.

⁹ And ^(A)let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap ^(B)if we do not lose heart. ^10 (C)Therefore, as we have opportunity, ^(D)let us do good to all, ^(E)especially to those who are of the household of faith.

¹⁴ And ^(A)we have seen and testify that ^(B)the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. ^15 (C)Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. ¹⁶ And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and ^(D)he who abides in love abides in God, and God ^(E)in him.

The Consummation of Love

¹⁷ Love has been perfected among us in this: that ^(F)we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. ¹⁸ There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
