⁶The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. ⁷They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. ⁸Most of the crowd ^(A)spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. ⁹And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, ^(B)“Hosanna to ^(C)the Son of David! ^(D)Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified

¹⁸^(A)But they all cried out together, ^(B)“Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”— ¹⁹a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city and ^(C)for murder. ²⁰Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus, ²¹but they kept shouting, “Crucify, crucify him!” ²²A third time he said to them, “Why? ^(D)What evil has he done? ^(E)I have found in him no guilt deserving death. ^(F)I will therefore punish and release him.” ²³But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed. ²⁴So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted. ²⁵He released the man who had been thrown into prison ^(G)for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, ^(H)but he delivered Jesus over to their will.

    “His steadfast love endures forever.”

⁵^(E)Out of my distress I ^(F)called on the Lord;
    the Lord answered me and set me ^(G)free.
⁶^(H)The Lord is on my side; ^(I)I will not fear.
    What can man do to me?
⁷^(J)The Lord is on my side as my helper;
    I shall ^(K)look in triumph on those who hate me.

⁸^(L)It is better to take refuge in the Lord
^(M)than to trust in man.
⁹It is better to take refuge in the Lord
^(N)than to trust in princes.

    in the name of the Lord I cut them off!

¹⁴The Lord is my strength and my song;

    are in the tents of the righteous:

and ^(X)recount the deeds of the Lord.
¹⁸The Lord has ^(Y)disciplined me severely,
but he has not given me over to death.

    that I may enter through them
    and give thanks to the Lord.
²⁰This is the gate of the Lord;
    ^(AA)the righteous shall enter through it.
²¹I thank you that ^(AB)you have answered me

²²^(AD)The stone that the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone.^[b]
²³This is the Lord's doing;
    it is marvelous in our eyes.

O Lord, we pray, give us success!

Bind the festal sacrifice with cords,
