The King Comes to Jerusalem(A)
21 When they came near Jerusalem and had reached Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Yeshua sent two disciples ahead of him. 2 He said to them, “Go into the village ahead of you. You will find a donkey tied there and a colt with it. Untie them, and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, tell him that the Lord needs them. That person will send them at once.”
4 This happened so that what the prophet had said came true:
5 “Tell the people of Zion,
‘Your king is coming to you.
He’s gentle,
riding on a donkey,
on a colt, a young pack animal.’”
6 The disciples did as Yeshua had directed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and put their coats on them for Yeshua to sit on. 8 Most of the people spread their coats on the road. Others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowd that went ahead of him and that followed him was shouting,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
10 When Yeshua came into Jerusalem, the whole city was in an uproar. People were asking, “Who is this?”
11 The crowd answered, “This is the prophet Yeshua from Nazareth in Galilee.”
Jesus Throws Out the Moneychangers(B)
12 Yeshua went into the temple courtyard and threw out everyone who was buying and selling there. He overturned the moneychangers’ tables and the chairs of those who sold pigeons. 13 He told them, “Scripture says, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you’re turning it into a gathering place for thieves!”
14 Blind and lame people came to him in the temple courtyard, and he healed them.
15 When the chief priests and the experts in Moses’ Teachings saw the amazing miracles he performed and the children shouting in the temple courtyard, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were irritated. 16 They said to him, “Do you hear what these children are saying?”
Yeshua replied, “Yes, I do. Have you never read, ‘From the mouths of little children and infants, you have created praise’?”
17 He left them and went out of the city to Bethany and spent the night there.
Jesus Curses the Fig Tree(C)
18 In the morning, as Yeshua returned to the city, he became hungry. 19 When he saw a fig tree by the road, he went up to the tree and found nothing on it but leaves. He said to the tree, “May fruit never grow on you again!” At once the fig tree dried up.
20 The disciples were surprised to see this. They asked, “How did the fig tree dry up so quickly?”
21 Yeshua answered them, “I can guarantee this truth: If you have faith and do not doubt, you will be able to do what I did to the fig tree. You could also say to this mountain, ‘Be uprooted and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. 22 Have faith that you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
Jesus’ Authority Challenged(D)
23 Then Yeshua went into the temple courtyard and began to teach. The chief priests and the leaders of the people came to him. They asked, “What gives you the right to do these things? Who told you that you could do this?”
24 Yeshua answered them, “I, too, have a question for you. If you answer it for me, I’ll tell you why I have the right to do these things. 25 Did John’s right to baptize come from heaven or from humans?”
They discussed this among themselves. They said, “If we say, ‘from heaven,’ he will ask us, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’ 26 But if we say, ‘from humans,’ we’re afraid of what the crowd might do. All those people think of John as a prophet.” 27 So they answered Yeshua, “We don’t know.”
Yeshua told them, “Then I won’t tell you why I have the right to do these things.
A Story about Two Sons
28 “What do you think about this? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go to work in the vineyard today.’
29 “His son replied, ‘I don’t want to!’ But later he changed his mind and went.
30 “The father went to the other son and told him the same thing. He replied, ‘I will, sir,’ but he didn’t go.
31 “Which of the two sons did what the father wanted?”
“The first,” they answered.
Yeshua said to them, “I can guarantee this truth: Tax collectors and prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 John came to you and showed you the way that God wants you to live, but you didn’t believe him. The tax collectors and prostitutes believed him. But even after you had seen that, you didn’t change your minds and believe him.
A Story about a Vineyard(E)
33 “Listen to another illustration. A landowner planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, made a winepress, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to vineyard workers and went on a trip.
34 “When the grapes were getting ripe, he sent his servants to the workers to collect his share of the produce. 35 The workers took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned a third to death. 36 So the landowner sent more servants. But the workers treated them the same way.
37 “Finally, he sent his son to them. He thought, ‘They will respect my son.’
38 “When the workers saw his son, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Let’s kill him and get his inheritance.’ 39 So they grabbed him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
40 “Now, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those workers?”
41 They answered, “He will destroy those evil people. Then he will lease the vineyard to other workers who will give him his share of the produce when it is ready.”
42 Yeshua asked them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:
‘The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
The Lord is responsible for this,
and it is amazing for us to see’?
43 That is why I can guarantee that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce what God wants. 44 Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken. If the stone falls on anyone, it will crush that person.”[a]
45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his illustrations, they knew that he was talking about them. 46 They wanted to arrest him but were afraid of the crowds, who thought he was a prophet.

21 Now (B)when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to [a]Bethphage, at (C)the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me. 3 And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”
4 [b]All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:
5 “Tell(D) the daughter of Zion,
‘Behold, your King is coming to you,
Lowly, and sitting on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ”

11 So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, (J)the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”
Jesus Cleanses the Temple(K)
12 (L)Then Jesus went into the temple [d]of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the (M)money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, (N)‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a (O)‘den of thieves.’ ”
14 Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the (P)Son of David!” they were [e]indignant 16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?”
And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read,
(Q)‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
You have perfected praise’?”
17 Then He left them and (R)went out of the city to Bethany, and He lodged there.
The Fig Tree Withered(S)
18 (T)Now in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry. 19 (U)And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, “Let no fruit grow on you ever again.” Immediately the fig tree withered away.
The Lesson of the Withered Fig Tree(V)
20 (W)And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither away so soon?”
21 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, (X)if you have faith and (Y)do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, (Z)but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. 22 And (AA)whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
Jesus’ Authority Questioned(AB)
23 (AC)Now when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and (AD)said, “By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?”
24 But Jesus answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things: 25 The (AE)baptism of (AF)John—where was it from? From heaven or from men?”
And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ 26 But if we say, ‘From men,’ we (AG)fear the multitude, (AH)for all count John as a prophet.” 27 So they answered Jesus and said, “We do not know.”
And He said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
The Parable of the Two Sons
28 “But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go, work today in my (AI)vineyard.’ 29 He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went. 30 Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?”
They said to Him, “The first.”
Jesus said to them, (AJ)“Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you. 32 For (AK)John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; (AL)but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward [f]relent and believe him.
The Parable of the Wicked Vinedressers(AM)
33 “Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner (AN)who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and (AO)went into a far country. 34 Now when vintage-time drew near, he sent his servants to the vinedressers, that they might receive its fruit. 35 (AP)And the vinedressers took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another. 36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did likewise to them. 37 Then last of all he sent his (AQ)son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38 But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves, (AR)‘This is the heir. 40 “Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vinedressers?”

42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:

This was the Lord’s doing,
And it is marvelous in our eyes’?
43 “Therefore I say to you, (AY)the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it. 44 And (AZ)whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, (BA)it will grind him to powder.”
45 Now when the chief priests and Pharisees heard His parables, they [h]perceived that He was speaking of them. 46 But when they sought to lay hands on Him, they (BB)feared the multitudes, because (BC)they took Him for a prophet.

La entrada triunfal
21 Ya cerca de Jerusalén, en el pueblo de Betfagué, junto al monte de los Olivos, Jesús envió a dos de los discípulos al pueblo cercano.
2 A la entrada del pueblo les dijo: «Hallarán una burra atada y junto a ella un burrito. Desátenlos y me los traen. 3 Si alguien les pregunta algo, díganle que el Maestro los necesita y que luego se los devolverá».
4 Así se cumplió la antigua profecía:
5 «Díganle a Jerusalén: “Tu Rey vendrá a ti sentado humildemente sobre un burrito”».
6 Los dos discípulos obedecieron, 7 y poco después regresaron con los animales. Pusieron luego sus mantos encima del burrito para que Jesús se montara. 8 Cuando Jesús pasaba, algunos de entre el gentío tendían sus mantos a lo largo del camino, otros cortaban ramas de los árboles y las tendían delante de él. 9 Y delante y detrás del cortejo, el pueblo lo aclamaba:

Jesús en el templo
12 Jesús se dirigió al templo y echó fuera a los que allí vendían y compraban, y volcó las mesas de los que cambiaban dinero y las sillas de los que vendían palomas. Y dijo:
13 ―Las Escrituras afirman que el templo de Dios es casa de oración, pero ustedes lo han convertido en cueva de ladrones.
14 Entonces se le acercaron los ciegos y los cojos y los sanó allí mismo en el templo. 15 Los principales sacerdotes y los demás jefes judíos vieron aquellos sorprendentes milagros; y cuando escucharon a los niños que gritaban en el templo: «¡Viva el Hijo de David!», se perturbaron y se llenaron de indignación. Entonces le dijeron a Jesús:
16 ―¿No oyes lo que están diciendo esos niños?
―Sí —respondió Jesús—. ¿No dicen acaso las Escrituras que “aun los recién nacidos lo adoran”?
17 Después de esto regresó a Betania, donde pasó la noche.
Se seca la higuera
18 Cuando regresaba a Jerusalén a la mañana siguiente, tuvo hambre. 19 Se acercó a una higuera del camino con la esperanza de encontrar en ella higos, ¡pero sólo encontró hojas!
―¡Nunca jamás produzcas fruto! —le dijo.
Y la higuera se secó. 20 Al verlo, los discípulos se preguntaron llenos de asombro:
―¿Cómo es que la higuera se secó tan pronto?
21 Y Jesús les respondió:
―Pues les repito que si tienen fe y no dudan, podrán hacer cosas como esta y muchas más. Hasta podrán decirle al Monte de los Olivos que se quite y se arroje al mar, y los obedecerá. 22 Cualquier cosa que pidan en oración la recibirán, si de veras creen.
La autoridad de Jesús puesta en duda
23 Ya de regreso en el templo, y mientras enseñaba, los principales sacerdotes y otros jefes judíos se le acercaron a exigirle que les explicara por qué había echado del templo a los mercaderes y quién le había dado autoridad para hacerlo.
24 ―Lo explicaré si ustedes me contestan primero esta pregunta —les respondió Jesús—. 25 ¿Quién envió a Juan a bautizar? ¿Fue Dios o no?
Como era una pregunta difícil de contestar, se pusieron a discutirla entre ellos en voz baja:
―Si decimos que Dios lo envió, nos preguntará por qué no creímos en él. 26 Y si decimos que no fue Dios el que lo envió, el pueblo se enojará, porque casi todo el mundo cree que Juan era profeta.
27 Por fin le respondieron:
―La verdad es que no sabemos.
Y Jesús les dijo:
―Pues yo tampoco les voy a decir quién me dio autoridad para hacer estas cosas.
Parábola de los dos hijos
28 »Pero, ¿qué les parece? Un padre que tenía dos hijos le dijo al mayor: “Hijo, ve a trabajar hoy a la finca”. 29 Y el hijo le respondió: “Lo siento; no tengo deseos de trabajar hoy en la finca”. Pero luego, arrepentido, fue. 30 Cuando el padre le pidió al menor que fuera, este le respondió: “¡Con mucho gusto! ¡Ahora mismo voy!”. Pero no fue. Díganme: 31 ¿Cuál de los dos obedeció a su padre?
―El primero, por supuesto —le respondieron los principales sacerdotes y los jefes judíos.
―Pues los despreciados cobradores de impuestos y las prostitutas llegarán al reino de Dios antes que ustedes, 32 puesto que Juan el Bautista les dijo que se arrepintieran y se volvieran a Dios, y ustedes no le hicieron caso. Los cobradores de impuestos y las prostitutas, en cambio, sí que creyeron el mensaje de Juan. Y aun viendo que esto sucedía así, ustedes se negaron a arrepentirse y a creer en él.
Parábola de los labradores malvados
33 Entonces les contó la siguiente parábola:
«Cierto hombre plantó una viña, la cercó, construyó una torre de vigilancia, y la arrendó a varios labradores. Según el contrato, estos habrían de compartir con el dueño el producto de la viña. El dueño se fue a otra región. 34 Cuando se acercó el tiempo de la cosecha, envió a empleados suyos a recoger lo que le correspondía. 35 Pero los labradores los atacaron: a uno lo golpearon, a otro lo mataron y a otro lo apedrearon. 36 Entonces el dueño envió un grupo mayor de hombres a cobrar, pero estos corrieron la misma suerte. 37 Por último, envió a su hijo con la esperanza de que lo respetarían por ser quien era. 38 Pero cuando los labradores vieron que se acercaba, se dijeron: “Este no es nada menos que el heredero. Matémoslo y así nos quedaremos con la herencia”. 39 Y, en efecto, lo sacaron de la viña y lo mataron.
40 »¿Qué creen ustedes que hará el dueño cuando regrese?».
41 Los dirigentes judíos respondieron:
―Pues matará sin misericordia a esos malvados y arrendará la viña a otros labradores que le paguen lo convenido.
42 Entonces Jesús les preguntó:
―¿Han leído alguna vez en las Escrituras aquello que dice: “La piedra que rechazaron los constructores ha sido puesta como piedra principal. ¡Qué interesante! El Señor lo hizo y es maravilloso”? 43 Con esto quiero decirles que a ustedes Dios les va a quitar el reino de los cielos, y se lo dará a gentes que den los frutos que él espera. 44 El que tropiece con la Roca de la verdad se hará pedazos; y al que la piedra le caiga encima quedará pulverizado.
45 Al darse cuenta los principales sacerdotes y los demás jefes judíos que Jesús se refería a ellos, que ellos eran los labradores de la parábola, 46 sintieron deseos de apresarlo, pero no se atrevieron porque el pueblo tenía a Jesús por profeta.

Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”
4 This took place to fulfill(D) what was spoken through the prophet:
5 “Say to Daughter Zion,
‘See, your king comes to you,
gentle and riding on a donkey,

6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. 8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks(F) on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,

14 The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them.(Q) 15 But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,”(R) they were indignant.(S)
16 “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him.
“Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read,
17 And he left them and went out of the city to Bethany,(U) where he spent the night.

20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” they asked.
21 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt,(X) not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for(Y) in prayer.”
The Authority of Jesus Questioned(Z)
23 Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. “By what authority(AA) are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you this authority?”
24 Jesus replied, “I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. 25 John’s baptism—where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or of human origin?”
They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’ 26 But if we say, ‘Of human origin’—we are afraid of the people, for they all hold that John was a prophet.”(AB)
27 So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.”
Then he said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.

The Parable of the Tenants(AJ)
33 “Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted(AK) a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower.(AL) Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.(AM) 34 When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants(AN) to the tenants to collect his fruit.
35 “The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.(AO) 36 Then he sent other servants(AP) to them, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way. 37 Last of all, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said.
38 “But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir.(AQ) Come, let’s kill him(AR) and take his inheritance.’(AS) 39 So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
40 “Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”
41 “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,”(AT) they replied, “and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants,(AU) who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.”
42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:
“‘The stone the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
the Lord has done this,
and it is marvelous in our eyes’[h]?(AV)
43 “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you(AW) and given to a people who will produce its fruit. 44 Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”[i](AX)
45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus’ parables, they knew he was talking about them. 46 They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet.(AY)
