The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks(A) on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,

“Hosanna[a] to the Son of David!”(B)

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”[b](C)

“Hosanna[c] in the highest heaven!”(D)

10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”

11 The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet(E) from Nazareth in Galilee.”

The Plot to Kill Jesus

45 Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary,(A) and had seen what Jesus did,(B) believed in him.(C) 46 But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. 47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees(D) called a meeting(E) of the Sanhedrin.(F)

“What are we accomplishing?” they asked. “Here is this man performing many signs.(G) 48 If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.”

39 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads(A) 40 and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,(B) save yourself!(C) Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!”(D) 41 In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. 42 “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel!(E) Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe(F) in him. 43 He trusts in God. Let God rescue him(G) now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”

A Mother’s Request(A)

20 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons(B) came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down,(C) asked a favor of him.

21 “What is it you want?” he asked.

She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.”(D)

22 “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup(E) I am going to drink?”

“We can,” they answered.

Immediately a rooster crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”(A) And he went outside and wept bitterly.

25 I have become its servant(A) by the commission God gave me(B) to present to you the word of God(C) in its fullness— 26 the mystery(D) that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. 27 To them God has chosen to make known(E) among the Gentiles the glorious riches(F) of this mystery, which is Christ in you,(G) the hope of glory.

28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing(H) and teaching everyone with all wisdom,(I) so that we may present everyone fully mature(J) in Christ. 29 To this end I strenuously(K) contend(L) with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.(M)

I want you to know how hard I am contending(N) for you and for those at Laodicea,(O) and for all who have not met me personally. My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart(P) and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery(Q) of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.(R) I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.(S) For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit(T) and delight to see how disciplined(U) you are and how firm(V) your faith in Christ(W) is.

Spiritual Fullness in Christ

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord,(X) continue to live your lives in him, rooted(Y) and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught,(Z) and overflowing with thankfulness.

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy,(AA) which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[a] of this world(AB) rather than on Christ.

For in Christ all the fullness(AC) of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head(AD) over every power and authority.(AE) 11 In him you were also circumcised(AF) with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh[b](AG) was put off when you were circumcised by[c] Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism,(AH) in which you were also raised with him(AI) through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.(AJ)

13 When you were dead in your sins(AK) and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you[d] alive(AL) with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,(AM) 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness,(AN) which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.(AO)
