²¹ Jesus answered him, If you would be perfect [that is, ^[a]have that spiritual maturity which accompanies self-sacrificing character], go and sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven; and come, ^[b]be My disciple [side with My party and follow Me].

²⁹ And anyone and everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for My name’s sake will receive ^[a]many [even a hundred] times more and will inherit eternal life.

⁸ Yes, furthermore, I count everything as loss compared to the possession of the priceless privilege (the overwhelming preciousness, the surpassing worth, and supreme advantage) of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord and of progressively becoming more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him [of perceiving and recognizing and understanding Him more fully and clearly].
