Marriage and Divorce(A)
19 Now it came to pass, (B)when Jesus had finished these sayings, that He departed from Galilee and came to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. 2 (C)And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there.
3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?”
4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who [a]made them at the beginning (D)‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, (E)‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and (F)the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
7 They said to Him, (G)“Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?”
8 He said to them, “Moses, because of the (H)hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your (I)wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9 (J)And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for [b]sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.”
10 His disciples said to Him, (K)“If such is the case of the man with his wife, it is better not to marry.”
Jesus Teaches on Celibacy
11 But He said to them, (L)“All cannot accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given: 12 For there are [c]eunuchs who were born thus from their mother’s womb, and (M)there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it.”
Jesus Blesses Little Children(N)
13 (O)Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for (P)of such is the kingdom of heaven.” 15 And He laid His hands on them and departed from there.
Jesus Counsels the Rich Young Ruler(Q)
16 (R)Now behold, one came and said to Him, (S)“Good[d] Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”
17 So He said to him, [e]“Why do you call Me good? [f]No one is (T)good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, (U)keep the commandments.”
18 He said to Him, “Which ones?”
Jesus said, (V)“‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 (W)‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, (X)‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”
20 The young man said to Him, “All these things I have (Y)kept [g]from my youth. What do I still lack?”
21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, (Z)go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
With God All Things Are Possible(AA)
23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that (AB)it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
25 When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”
26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but (AC)with God all things are possible.”
27 Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, (AD)we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?”
28 So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, (AE)you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 (AF)And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother [h]or wife or children or [i]lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. 30 (AG)But many who are first will be last, and the last first.

19 Khi Ðức Chúa Jesus đã nói những điều ấy xong, Ngài rời Ga-li-lê và đến miền Giu-đê, bên kia Sông Giô-đanh. 2 Rất đông dân chúng đi theo Ngài, và Ngài chữa bịnh cho họ tại đó.
3 Bấy giờ những người Pha-ri-si đến hỏi để thử Ngài rằng, “Một người có được phép ly dị vợ vì bất cứ lý do gì không?”
4 Ngài trả lời và nói, “Các ngươi chưa đọc rằng, ban đầu Ðấng Tạo Hóa dựng nên họ, một người nam và một người nữ,
7 Họ hỏi Ngài, “Thế sao Môi-se lại truyền rằng hãy trao cho vợ một chứng thư ly dị, rồi để nàng đi?”
8 Ngài trả lời họ, “Bởi vì lòng các ngươi cứng cỏi nên Môi-se mới cho phép các ngươi ly dị vợ, nhưng lúc đầu thì không như vậy. 9 Ta nói với các ngươi, người nào ly dị vợ không vì vợ gian dâm, rồi cưới một phụ nữ khác là phạm tội ngoại tình; [ và ai cưới một phụ nữ ly dị cũng phạm tội ngoại tình. ]” [a]
10 Các môn đồ nói với Ngài, “Nếu mối liên hệ giữa người đàn ông nào với vợ mình cũng phải như vậy thì thà không lập gia đình còn hơn.”

13 Người ta đem các trẻ thơ đến với Ngài để Ngài đặt tay trên chúng và cầu nguyện cho, nhưng các môn đồ rầy la những người ấy. 14 Tuy nhiên Ðức Chúa Jesus nói, “Hãy để các trẻ thơ đến với Ta, đừng ngăn cấm chúng, vì vương quốc thiên đàng thuộc về những người giống như các trẻ thơ ấy.” 15 Ngài đặt tay trên chúng, rồi rời khỏi nơi ấy.

16 Lúc ấy một người đến với Ngài và hỏi, “Thưa Thầy, tôi phải làm việc tốt gì để được hưởng sự sống đời đời?”
17 Ngài nói với ông, “Sao ngươi hỏi Ta về việc tốt? Chỉ có một Ðấng tốt mà thôi, nhưng nếu ngươi muốn vào hưởng sự sống, hãy vâng giữ các điều răn.”
18 Người ấy hỏi, “Thưa các điều răn nào?”
Ðức Chúa Jesus đáp,
“Ngươi chớ sát nhân.
Ngươi chớ phạm tội ngoại tình.
Ngươi chớ trộm cắp.
Ngươi chớ làm chứng dối.
19 Ngươi hãy hiếu kính cha mẹ,
và
Ngươi hãy thương người lân cận như mình.”
20 Chàng thanh niên nói với Ngài, “Tôi đã giữ tất cả những điều ấy. Tôi còn thiếu điều gì nữa chăng?”
21 Ðức Chúa Jesus đáp, “Nếu ngươi muốn được trọn vẹn, hãy đi, bán hết tài sản, lấy tiền giúp người nghèo để ngươi sẽ có kho báu trên trời, rồi hãy đến, theo Ta.”
22 Khi chàng thanh niên nghe những lời đó, chàng buồn bã bỏ đi, vì chàng có rất nhiều của.
23 Bấy giờ Ðức Chúa Jesus nói với các môn đồ Ngài, “Quả thật, Ta nói với các ngươi, người giàu vào vương quốc thiên đàng thật khó thay. 24 Ta lại nói cùng các ngươi, con lạc đà chui qua lỗ cây kim may còn dễ hơn người giàu vào vương quốc Ðức Chúa Trời.”
25 Khi các môn đồ nghe vậy, họ rất đỗi ngạc nhiên và nói, “Nếu vậy thì ai sẽ được cứu?”
26 Nhưng Ðức Chúa Jesus nhìn họ và nói, “Ðối với loài người việc ấy không thể thực hiện, nhưng đối với Ðức Chúa Trời mọi sự đều có thể xảy ra.”
27 Phi-rơ đáp lời và thưa với Ngài, “Thầy xem, chúng con đã bỏ tất cả để theo Thầy. Rồi đây chúng con sẽ được gì chăng?”
28 Ðức Chúa Jesus phán với họ, “Quả thật, Ta nói với các ngươi, lúc mọi sự được đổi mới, khi Con Người ngự trên ngai vinh hiển của mình, thì các ngươi, những người đã theo Ta, cũng sẽ ngồi trên mười hai ngai đoán xét mười hai chi tộc I-sơ-ra-ên. 29 Hễ ai vì danh Ta lìa bỏ nhà cửa, anh em, chị em, cha mẹ, con cái, ruộng vườn, người ấy sẽ nhận được gấp trăm[c] lần hơn, và sẽ hưởng sự sống đời đời. 30 Nhưng có nhiều người đầu sẽ thành cuối, và nhiều người cuối sẽ thành đầu.”

19 When Jesus had finished saying these things,(B) he left Galilee and went into the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan. 2 Large crowds followed him, and he healed them(C) there.
3 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife(D) for any and every reason?”
4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’[a](E) 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’[b]?(F) 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
7 “Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?”(G)
8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”(H)
10 The disciples said to him, “If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.”
11 Jesus replied, “Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given.(I) 12 For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others—and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.”
The Little Children and Jesus(J)
13 Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them(K) and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them.
14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs(L) to such as these.”(M) 15 When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.
The Rich and the Kingdom of God(N)
16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life(O)?”(P)
17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”(Q)
18 “Which ones?” he inquired.
Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery,(R) you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’[c](S) and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’[d]”(T)
20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”
21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect,(U) go, sell your possessions and give to the poor,(V) and you will have treasure in heaven.(W) Then come, follow me.”
22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich(X) to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?”
26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”(Y)
27 Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you!(Z) What then will there be for us?”
28 Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne,(AA) you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.(AB) 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife[e] or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.(AC) 30 But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.(AD)
