Jesus Transfigured on the Mount(A)
17 Now (B)after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; 2 and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. 3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. 4 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, [a]let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
5 (C)While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, (D)“This is My beloved Son, (E)in whom I am well pleased. (F)Hear Him!” 6 (G)And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. 7 But Jesus came and (H)touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.” 8 When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
9 Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.”
10 And His disciples asked Him, saying, (I)“Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
11 Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming [b]first and will (J)restore all things. 12 (K)But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they (L)did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise (M)the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.” 13 (N)Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.
A Boy Is Healed(O)
14 (P)And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is [c]an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. 16 So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.”
17 Then Jesus answered and said, “O [d]faithless and (Q)perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.” 18 And Jesus (R)rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”
20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your [e]unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, (S)if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 [f]However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
Jesus Again Predicts His Death and Resurrection(T)
22 (U)Now while they were [g]staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men, 23 and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised up.” And they were exceedingly (V)sorrowful.
Peter and His Master Pay Their Taxes
24 (W)When they had come to [h]Capernaum, those who received the [i]temple tax came to Peter and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?”
25 He said, “Yes.”
And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from (X)strangers?”
26 Peter said to Him, “From strangers.”
Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. 27 Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a [j]piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.”

The Transfiguration

Jesus Heals a Boy with a Demon
14 (V)And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and, kneeling before him, 15 said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he has (W)seizures and he suffers terribly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. 16 And I brought him to your disciples, and (X)they could not heal him.” 17 And Jesus answered, “O faithless and (Y)twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? (Z)How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.” 18 And Jesus (AA)rebuked the demon,[b] and it[c] came out of him, and (AB)the boy was healed instantly.[d] 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” 20 He said to them, (AC)“Because of your little faith. Jesus Again Foretells Death, Resurrection
22 (AH)As they were gathering[f] in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men, 23 and they will kill him, and he will be raised on (AI)the third day.” And they were greatly distressed.
The Temple Tax
24 (AJ)When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of (AK)the two-drachma tax went up to Peter and said, “Does your teacher not pay the tax?” 25 He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, (AL)“What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or (AM)tax? From their sons or from others?” 26 And when he said, “From others,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. 27 However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel.[g] Take that and give it to them for me and for yourself.”

17 Six jours après, Jésus prit avec lui Pierre, Jacques et son frère Jean, et il les conduisit à l'écart sur une haute montagne. 2 Il fut transfiguré devant eux; son visage resplendit comme le soleil et ses vêtements devinrent blancs comme la lumière. 3 Et voici que Moïse et Elie leur apparurent; ils s'entretenaient avec lui. 4 Pierre prit la parole et dit à Jésus: «Seigneur, il est bon que nous soyons ici. Si tu le veux, faisons ici trois abris: un pour toi, un pour Moïse et un pour Elie.» 5 Comme il parlait encore, une nuée lumineuse les couvrit. De la nuée une voix fit entendre ces paroles: «Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé, qui a toute mon approbation: écoutez-le!» 6 Lorsqu'ils entendirent cette voix, les disciples tombèrent le visage contre terre et furent saisis d'une grande frayeur. 7 Mais Jésus s'approcha d'eux, les toucha et dit: «Levez-vous, n'ayez pas peur!» 8 Ils levèrent les yeux et ne virent plus que Jésus seul.
9 Comme ils descendaient de la montagne, Jésus leur donna cet ordre: «Ne parlez à personne de ce que vous avez vu jusqu'à ce que le Fils de l'homme soit ressuscité.»
10 Les disciples lui posèrent cette question: «Pourquoi donc les spécialistes de la loi disent-ils qu'Elie doit venir d'abord?» 11 Jésus leur répondit: «Il est vrai qu'Elie doit venir [d'abord] et rétablir toutes choses, 12 mais je vous le dis: Elie est déjà venu, ils ne l'ont pas reconnu et ils l'ont traité comme ils ont voulu. De même le Fils de l'homme souffrira de leur part.» 13 Les disciples comprirent alors qu'il leur parlait de Jean-Baptiste.
Guérison d'un épileptique
14 Lorsqu'ils furent arrivés près de la foule, un homme vint se jeter à genoux devant Jésus et dit: 15 «Seigneur, aie pitié de mon fils qui est épileptique et qui souffre cruellement; il tombe souvent dans le feu ou dans l'eau. 16 Je l'ai amené à tes disciples et ils n'ont pas pu le guérir.» 17 «Génération incrédule et perverse, répondit Jésus, jusqu'à quand serai-je avec vous? Jusqu'à quand devrai-je vous supporter? Amenez-le-moi ici.» 18 Jésus menaça le démon, qui sortit de l’enfant, et celui-ci fut guéri à partir de ce moment-là.
19 Alors les disciples s'approchèrent de Jésus et lui dirent en privé: «Pourquoi n'avons-nous pas pu chasser ce démon?» 20 «C'est parce que vous manquez de foi, leur dit Jésus. Je vous le dis en vérité, si vous aviez de la foi comme un grain de moutarde, vous diriez à cette montagne: ‘Déplace-toi d'ici jusque-là’, et elle se déplacerait; rien ne vous serait impossible. 21 [Cependant, cette sorte de démon ne sort que par la prière et par le jeûne.]»
22 Pendant qu'ils parcouraient la Galilée, Jésus leur dit: «Le Fils de l'homme doit être livré entre les mains des hommes; 23 ils le feront mourir et le troisième jour il ressuscitera.» Ils furent profondément attristés.
24 Lorsqu'ils arrivèrent à Capernaüm, ceux qui percevaient l’impôt annuel s'approchèrent de Pierre et lui dirent: «Votre maître ne paie-t-il pas l’impôt annuel?» 25 «Si», dit-il. Quand il fut entré dans la maison, Jésus prit les devants et dit: «Qu'en penses-tu, Simon? Les rois de la terre, de qui perçoivent-ils des taxes ou des impôts? De leurs fils ou des étrangers?» 26 Il lui dit: «Des étrangers.» Jésus lui répondit: «Les fils en sont donc exemptés. 27 Cependant, pour ne pas les choquer, va au lac, jette l'hameçon et tire le premier poisson qui viendra; ouvre-lui la bouche et tu trouveras de l’argent[a]. Prends-le et donne-le-leur pour moi et pour toi.»
