Moses and Elijah Appear with Jesus^(A)

17 After six days Yeshua took Peter, James, and John (the brother of James) and led them up a high mountain where they could be alone.

² Yeshua’s appearance changed in front of them. His face became as bright as the sun and his clothes as white as light. ³ Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared to them and were talking with Yeshua.

⁴ Peter said to Yeshua, “Lord, it’s good that we’re here. If you want, I’ll put up three tents here—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

⁵ He was still speaking when a bright cloud overshadowed them. Then a voice came out of the cloud and said, “This is my Son, whom I love and with whom I am pleased. Listen to him!”

⁶ The disciples were terrified when they heard this and fell facedown on the ground. ⁷ But Yeshua touched them and said, “Get up, and don’t be afraid!” ⁸ As they raised their heads, they saw no one but Yeshua.

⁹ On their way down the mountain, Yeshua ordered them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen. Wait until the Son of Man has been brought back to life.”

Moses and Elijah Appear with Jesus^(A)

² After six days Yeshua took only Peter, James, and John and led them up a high mountain where they could be alone.

Yeshua’s appearance changed in front of them. ³ His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone on earth could bleach them. ⁴ Then Elijah and Moses appeared to them and were talking with Yeshua.

⁵ Peter said to Yeshua, “Rabbi, it’s good that we’re here. Let’s put up three tents—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” ⁶ (Peter didn’t know how to respond. He and the others were terrified.)

⁷ Then a cloud overshadowed them. A voice came out of the cloud and said, “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”

⁸ Suddenly, as they looked around, they saw no one with them but Yeshua.

⁹ On their way down the mountain, Yeshua ordered them not to tell anyone what they had seen. They were to wait until the Son of Man had come back to life. ¹⁰ They kept in mind what he said but argued among themselves what he meant by “come back to life.”

Moses and Elijah Appear with Jesus^(A)

²⁸ About eight days after he had said this, Yeshua took Peter, John, and James with him and went up a mountain to pray. ²⁹ While Yeshua was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. ³⁰ Suddenly, both Moses and Elijah were talking with him. ³¹ They appeared in heavenly glory and were discussing Yeshua’s approaching death and what he was about to fulfill in Jerusalem.

³² Peter and the men with him were sleeping soundly. When they woke up, they saw Yeshua’s glory and the two men standing with him. ³³ As Moses and Elijah were leaving him, Peter said to Yeshua, “Teacher, it’s good that we’re here. Let’s put up three tents—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” Peter didn’t know what he was saying.

³⁴ While he was saying this, a cloud overshadowed them. They were frightened as they went into the cloud. ³⁵ A voice came out of the cloud and said, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen. Listen to him!”

³⁶ After the voice had spoken, they saw that Yeshua was alone. The disciples said nothing, and for some time they told no one about what they had seen.

⁴⁴ So he prayed very hard in anguish. His sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground.^[a]

⁴⁵ When Yeshua ended his prayer, he got up and went to the disciples. He found them asleep and overcome with sadness. ⁴⁶ He said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up, and pray that you won’t be tempted.”

Jesus Is Arrested^(A)

⁴⁷ While he was still speaking to the disciples, a crowd arrived. The man called Judas, one of the twelve apostles, was leading them. He came close to Yeshua to kiss him.

⁴⁸ Yeshua said to him, “Judas, do you intend to betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”

⁴⁹ The men who were with Yeshua saw what was going to happen. So they asked him, “Lord, should we use our swords to fight?” ⁵⁰ One of the disciples cut off the right ear of the chief priest’s servant.

⁵¹ But Yeshua said, “Stop! That’s enough of this.” Then he touched the servant’s ear and healed him.

⁵² Then Yeshua said to the chief priests, temple guards, and leaders who had come for him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs as if I were a criminal? ⁵³ I was with you in the temple courtyard every day and you didn’t try to arrest me. But this is your time, when darkness rules.”

Jesus Comes Back to Life^(A)

24 Very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb. They were carrying the spices that they had prepared. ² They found that the stone had been rolled away from the tomb. ³ When they went in, they did not find the body of the Lord Yeshua. ⁴ While they were puzzled about this, two men in clothes that were as bright as lightning suddenly stood beside them. ⁵ The women were terrified and bowed to the ground.

The men asked the women, “Why are you looking among the dead for the living one? ⁶ He’s not here. He has been brought back to life! Remember what he told you while he was still in Galilee. ⁷ He said, ‘The Son of Man must be handed over to sinful people, be crucified, and come back to life on the third day.’” ⁸ Then the women remembered what Yeshua had told them.

⁹ The women left the tomb and went back to the city. They told everything to the eleven apostles and all the others. ¹⁰ The women were Mary from Magdala, Joanna, and Mary (the mother of James). There were also other women with them. They told the apostles everything.

¹¹ The apostles thought that the women’s story didn’t make any sense, and they didn’t believe them.

¹² But Peter got up and ran to the tomb. He bent down to look inside and saw only the strips of linen. Then he went away, wondering what had happened.

Jesus Appears to Disciples on a Road to Emmaus

¹³ On the same day, two of Yeshua’s disciples were going to a village called Emmaus. It was about seven miles from Jerusalem. ¹⁴ They were talking to each other about everything that had happened.

¹⁵ While they were talking, Yeshua approached them and began walking with them. ¹⁶ Although they saw him, they didn’t recognize him.

¹⁷ He asked them, “What are you discussing?”

They stopped and looked very sad. ¹⁸ One of them, Cleopas, replied, “Are you the only one in Jerusalem who doesn’t know what has happened recently?”

¹⁹ “What happened?” he asked.

They said to him, “We were discussing what happened to Yeshua from Nazareth. He was a powerful prophet in what he did and said in the sight of God and all the people. ²⁰ Our chief priests and rulers had him condemned to death and crucified. ²¹ We were hoping that he was the one who would free Israel. What’s more, this is now the third day since everything happened. ²² Some of the women from our group startled us. They went to the tomb early this morning ²³ and didn’t find his body. They told us that they had seen angels who said that he’s alive. ²⁴ Some of our men went to the tomb and found it empty, as the women had said, but they didn’t see him.”

²⁵ Then Yeshua said to them, “How foolish you are! You’re so slow to believe everything the prophets said! ²⁶ Didn’t the Messiah have to suffer these things and enter into his glory?” ²⁷ Then he began with Moses’ Teachings and the Prophets to explain to them what was said about him throughout the Scriptures.

²⁸ When they came near the village where they were going, Yeshua acted as if he were going farther. ²⁹ They urged him, “Stay with us! It’s getting late, and the day is almost over.” So he went to stay with them.

³⁰ While he was at the table with them, he took bread and blessed it. He broke the bread and gave it to them. ³¹ Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. But he vanished from their sight.

³² They said to each other, “Weren’t we excited when he talked with us on the road and opened up the meaning of the Scriptures for us?”

³³ That same hour they went back to Jerusalem. They found the eleven apostles and those who were with them gathered together. ³⁴ They were saying, “The Lord has really come back to life and has appeared to Simon.”

³⁵ Then the two disciples told what had happened on the road and how they had recognized Yeshua when he broke the bread.

Jesus Appears to the Apostles^(B)

³⁶ While they were talking about what had happened, Yeshua stood among them. He said to them, “Peace be with you!” ³⁷ They were terrified, and thought they were seeing a ghost.

³⁸ He asked them, “Why are you afraid? Why do you have doubts? ³⁹ Look at my hands and feet, and see that it’s really me. Touch me, and see for yourselves. Ghosts don’t have flesh and bones, but you can see that I do.” ⁴⁰ As he said this, he showed them his hands and feet.

⁴¹ The disciples were overcome with joy and amazement because this seemed too good to be true. Then Yeshua asked them, “Do you have anything to eat?” ⁴² They gave him a piece of broiled fish. ⁴³ He took it and ate it while they watched him.

⁴⁴ Then he said to them, “These are the words I spoke to you while I was still with you. I told you that everything written about me in Moses’ Teachings, the Prophets, and the Psalms had to come true.” ⁴⁵ Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. ⁴⁶ He said to them, “Scripture says that the Messiah would suffer and that he would come back to life on the third day. ⁴⁷ Scripture also says that by the authority of Yeshua people would be told to turn to God and change the way they think and act so that their sins will be forgiven. This would be told to people from all nations, beginning in the city of Jerusalem. ⁴⁸ You are witnesses to these things.

⁴⁹ “I’m sending you what my Father promised. Wait here in the city until you receive power from heaven.”

⁵⁰ Then Yeshua took them to a place near Bethany. There he raised his hands and blessed them. ⁵¹ While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken to heaven.

⁵² The disciples worshiped him and were overjoyed as they went back to Jerusalem. ⁵³ They were always in the temple, where they praised God.

Be Ready for the Day of the Lord

3 Dear friends, this is the second letter I’m writing to you. In both letters I’m trying to refresh your memory. ² I want you to remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and what the Lord and Savior commanded you through your apostles.

³ First, you must understand this: In the last days people who follow their own desires will appear. These disrespectful people will ridicule God’s promise ⁴ by saying, “What’s happened to his promise to return? Ever since our ancestors died, everything continues as it did from the beginning of the world.”

⁵ They are deliberately ignoring one fact: Because of God’s word, heaven and earth existed a long time ago. The earth appeared out of water and was kept alive by water. ⁶ Water also flooded and destroyed that world. ⁷ By God’s word, the present heaven and earth are designated to be burned. They are being kept until the day ungodly people will be judged and destroyed.

⁸ Dear friends, don’t ignore this fact: One day with the Lord is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. ⁹ The Lord isn’t slow to do what he promised, as some people think. Rather, he is patient for your sake. He doesn’t want to destroy anyone but wants all people to have an opportunity to turn to him and change the way they think and act.

¹⁰ The day of the Lord will come like a thief. On that day heaven will pass away with a roaring sound. Everything that makes up the universe will burn and be destroyed. The earth and everything that people have done on it will be exposed.^[a]

¹¹ All these things will be destroyed in this way. So think of the kind of holy and godly lives you must live ¹² as you look forward to the day of God and eagerly wait for it to come. When that day comes, heaven will be on fire and will be destroyed. Everything that makes up the universe will burn and melt. ¹³ But we look forward to what God has promised—a new heaven and a new earth—a place where everything that has God’s approval lives.

¹⁴ Therefore, dear friends, with this to look forward to, make every effort to have him find you at peace, without spiritual stains or blemishes. ¹⁵ Think of our Lord’s patience as an opportunity for us to be saved. This is what our dear brother Paul wrote to you about, using the wisdom God gave him. ¹⁶ He talks about this subject in all his letters. Some things in his letters are hard to understand. Ignorant people and people who aren’t sure of what they believe distort what Paul says in his letters the same way they distort the rest of the Scriptures. These people will be destroyed.

¹⁷ Dear friends, you already know these things. So be on your guard not to be carried away by the deception of people who have no principles. Then you won’t fall from your firm position. ¹⁸ But grow in the good will^[b] and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Yeshua Christ. Glory belongs to him now and for that eternal day! Amen.

Warnings about False Teachers

³ Dear friends, I had intended to write to you about the salvation we share. But something has come up. It demands that I write to you and encourage you to continue your fight for the Christian faith that was entrusted to God’s holy people once for all time.

⁴ Some people have slipped in among you unnoticed. Not long ago they were condemned in writing for the following reason: They are people to whom God means nothing. They use God’s kindness^[a] as an excuse for sexual freedom and deny our only Master and Lord, Yeshua Christ.

⁸ Yet, in a similar way, the people who slipped in among you are dreamers. They contaminate their bodies with sin, reject the Lord’s authority, and insult his glory. ⁹ When the archangel Michael argued with the devil, they were arguing over the body of Moses. But Michael didn’t dare to hand down a judgment against the devil. Instead, Michael said, “May the Lord reprimand you!”

¹⁰ Whatever these people don’t understand, they insult. Like animals, which are creatures of instinct, they use whatever they know to destroy themselves.

22 The angel showed me a river filled with the water of life, as clear as crystal. It was flowing from the throne of God and the lamb. ² Between the street of the city and the river there was a tree of life visible from both sides. It produced 12 kinds of fruit. Each month had its own fruit. The leaves of the tree will heal the nations. ³ There will no longer be any curse. The throne of God and the lamb will be in the city. His servants will worship him ⁴ and see his face. His name will be on their foreheads. ⁵ There will be no more night, and they will not need any light from lamps or the sun because the Lord God will shine on them. They will rule as kings forever and ever.
