16 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.
2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
5 And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.
6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.
8 Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?
9 Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
12 Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

24 Tunc Jesus dixit discipulis suis: Si quis vult post me venire, abneget semetipsum, et tollat crucem suam, et sequatur me.
25 Qui enim voluerit animam suam salvam facere, perdet eam: qui autem perdiderit animam suam propter me, inveniet eam.
26 Quid enim prodest homini, si mundum universum lucretur, animae vero suae detrimentum patiatur? aut quam dabit homo commutationem pro anima sua?
27 Filius enim hominis venturus est in gloria Patris sui cum angelis suis: et tunc reddet unicuique secundum opera ejus.

The Demand for a Sign
16 The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test Jesus[a] they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.(A) 2 He answered them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ 3 And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.[b] 4 An evil and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” Then he left them and went away.(B)
The Yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees
5 When the disciples reached the other side, they had forgotten to bring any bread. 6 Jesus said to them, “Watch out, and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”(C) 7 They said to one another, “It is because we have brought no bread.” 8 And becoming aware of it, Jesus said, “You of little faith, why are you talking about having no bread?(D) 9 Do you still not perceive? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand and how many baskets you gathered?(E) 10 Or the seven loaves for the four thousand and how many baskets you gathered?(F) 11 How could you fail to perceive that I was not speaking about bread? Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!” 12 Then they understood that he had not told them to beware of the yeast of bread but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Peter’s Declaration about Jesus
13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist but others Elijah and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”(G) 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah,[c] the Son of the living God.”(H) 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my Father in heaven.(I) 18 And I tell you, you are Peter,[d] and on this rock[e] I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.(J) 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”(K) 20 Then he sternly ordered the disciples not to tell anyone that he was[f] the Messiah.[g](L)
Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection
21 From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and undergo great suffering at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes and be killed and on the third day be raised.(M) 22 And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “God forbid it, Lord! This must never happen to you.” 23 But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance[h] to me, for you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things.”
The Cross and Self-Denial
24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If any wish to come after me, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.(N) 25 For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life?
27 “For the Son of Man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay everyone for what has been done.(O) 28 Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”(P)

16 바리새파 사람들과 사두개파 사람들이 예수를 시험해 보려고 왔다. 그들은 예수를 보고 하나님께로부터 왔다는 증거로 기적을 보여 달라고 하였다.
2 그러자 예수께서 말씀하셨다. “너희는 해질 무렵에는 ‘하늘이 붉은 것을 보니 내일은 날씨가 화창하겠구나.’ 하고 말한다. 3 또 동틀 때에는 ‘하늘이 붉고 구름이 많이 낀 것을 보니, 오늘은 날씨가 궂겠구나.’ 하고 말한다. 너희는 이렇게 하늘을 보고 날씨가 어떨지는 알면서 이 시대의 표적은 볼 줄 모르는구나. 4 악하고 믿음이 없는 세대가 표적을 찾는다. 하지만 너희 세대에게는 요나의 표적[a] 말고는 아무 표적도 보여 주지 않을 것이다.” 이 말씀을 하신 뒤 예수께서는 그들을 떠나가셨다.
제자들이 예수를 잘못 이해하다

5 예수의 제자들은 호수 건너편으로 가면서 빵을 가져가는 것을 잊었다. 6 그런데 예수께서 제자들에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “바리새파[b] 와 사두개파의 누룩[c]을 조심하고 경계하여라.”
7 제자들이 서로 수군거리며 말하였다. “우리가 빵을 가져오지 않아 저런 말씀을 하시는 모양이다.”
8 예수께서 제자들이 무슨 말을 하는지 아시고 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “믿음이 적은 자들아, 어찌하여 빵이 없는 것을 가지고 너희끼리 수군거리느냐? 9 아직도 모르겠느냐? 빵 다섯 개로 오천 명이나 되는 사람을 먹인 일을 벌써 잊었느냐? 먹고 남은 것을 너희가 여러 광주리에 모아 담지 않았느냐? 10 또 빵 일곱 개로 사천 명이나 되는 사람을 먹인 것과, 그러고도 남은 것을 주워 모은 것이 여러 광주리였던 것을 잊었느냐? 11 어찌하여 내가 너희에게 말한 것이 빵에 관한 것이 아니라는 것을 모르느냐? 내 말의 뜻은 바리새파와 사두개파의 누룩을 조심하라는 것이었다.”
12 그제야 제자들은 예수께서 조심하라고 하신 것이, 빵에 쓰이는 누룩이 아니라 바리새파와 사두개파의 가르침이라는 것을 깨달았다.

13 예수께서는 빌립보의 가이사랴[d] 지방에 이르러 제자들에게 물으셨다. “사람들은 나를 누구라고 하느냐?”
14 제자들이 대답하였다. “세례자 요한이라고 하는 사람들도 있고, 엘리야[e]라고 하는 사람들도 있습니다. 또 어떤 사람들은 선생님이 예레미야[f]이거나 다른 예언자들 가운데 한 분이라고도 말합니다.”
15 예수께서 제자들에게 물으셨다. “그러면 너희는 내가 누구라 말하느냐?”
16 시몬 베드로가 대답하였다. “선생님은 살아 계신 하나님의 아들 그리스도이십니다.”

21 그때부터 예수께서는, 당신이 예루살렘으로 가서 겪으셔야 할 일들에 관하여 제자들에게 설명하기 시작하셨다. 예수께서는 당신이 예루살렘에 가서, 장로[j]들과 대제사장들과 율법 선생들에게서 많은 고난을 당하고, 그들의 손에 죽었다가, 사흘 만에 다시 살아나셔야 한다고 말씀하셨다.

24 그리고 예수께서는 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. “누구든지 나를 따르려는 사람은 자기를 버리고 제 십자가를 지고 나를 따라야 한다. 25 누구든지 제 목숨을 구하려고 하는 사람은 목숨을 잃을 것이다. 그러나 누구든지 나를 위해서 제 목숨을 잃는 사람은 목숨을 구할 것이다. 26 사람이 온 세상을 얻고도 자기 목숨을 잃으면 무슨 소용이 있느냐? 세상의 어떤 것도 네 목숨보다 더 귀한 것은 없다. 27 사람의 아들이 천사들과 함께 자기 아버지의 영광에 싸여 올 것이다. 그리고 각 사람에게 그가 한 일에 따라 상과 벌을 내릴 것이다. 28 내가 너희에게 분명히 말한다. 여기 있는 사람들 가운데서, 사람의 아들이 자기 왕국에 오는 것을 볼 때까지 죽지 않을 사람이 몇 사람 있다.”
