The Pharisees and Sadducees Seek a Sign(A)
16 Then the (B)Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven. 2 He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; 3 and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ [a]Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times. 4 (C)A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of [b]the prophet Jonah.” And He left them and departed.
The Leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees(D)
5 Now (E)when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. 6 Then Jesus said to them, (F)“Take heed and beware of the [c]leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.”
7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “It is because we have taken no bread.”
8 But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, “O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves because you [d]have brought no bread? 9 (G)Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up? 10 (H)Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many large baskets you took up? 11 How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread?—but to beware of the [e]leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” 12 Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the [f]doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ(I)
13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, (J)“Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
14 So they said, (K)“Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or (L)one of the prophets.”
15 He said to them, “But who do (M)you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered and said, (N)“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, (O)for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but (P)My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that (Q)you are Peter, and (R)on this rock I will build My church, and (S)the gates of Hades shall not [g]prevail against it. 19 (T)And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth [h]will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
20 (U)Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.
Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection(V)
21 From that time Jesus began (W)to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.
22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, [i]“Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”
23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, (X)Satan! (Y)You are [j]an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
Take Up the Cross and Follow Him(Z)
24 (AA)Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and (AB)follow Me. 25 For (AC)whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what (AD)profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or (AE)what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For (AF)the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father (AG)with His angels, (AH)and then He will reward each according to his works. 28 Assuredly, I say to you, (AI)there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”

Hiningan ng Tanda si Jesus(A)
16 Dumating(B) ang mga Fariseo at ang mga Saduceo, at upang subukin siya, hiniling nila sa kanya na magpakita sa kanila ng isang tanda mula sa langit.
2 Ngunit sumagot siya at sinabi sa kanila, “[Sa dapit-hapon ay sinasabi ninyo, ‘Magiging maganda ang panahon, sapagkat mapula ang langit.’
3 At sa umaga, ‘Magiging maunos ngayon, sapagkat mapula ang langit at nagbabanta.’ Marunong kayong kumilala ng anyo ng langit; ngunit hindi ninyo makilala ang mga tanda ng mga panahon.]
4 Ang(C) isang lahing masama at mapangalunya ay humahanap ng tanda, ngunit hindi ito bibigyan ng tanda, maliban sa tanda ni Jonas.” Kanyang iniwan sila at siya ay umalis.
Ang Lebadura ng mga Fariseo at ng mga Saduceo(D)
5 Nang makarating ang mga alagad sa kabilang ibayo, nakalimutan nilang magdala ng tinapay.
6 Sinabi(E) ni Jesus sa kanila, “Mag-ingat kayo at iwasan ninyo ang lebadura ng mga Fariseo at ng mga Saduceo.”
7 Nag-usap sila sa isa't isa na nagsasabi, “Hindi kasi tayo nagdala ng tinapay.”
8 Ngunit alam ito ni Jesus kaya't sinabi niya, “O kayong maliliit ang pananampalataya, bakit kayo'y nagtatalo na wala kayong tinapay?
9 Hindi(F) pa ba ninyo nauunawaan o natatandaan ang limang tinapay para sa limang libo at kung ilang kaing ang inyong natipon?
10 O(G) iyong pitong tinapay para sa apat na libo at kung ilang kaing ang inyong natipon?
11 Paanong hindi ninyo naunawaan na ang sinabi ko ay hindi tungkol sa tinapay? Ngunit mag-ingat kayo sa lebadura ng mga Fariseo at mga Saduceo!”
12 Kaya't naunawaan nila na ang sinabi ni Jesus[a] ay hindi sa pampaalsa ng tinapay mag-ingat kundi sa mga aral ng mga Fariseo at Saduceo.
Ang Pahayag ni Pedro tungkol kay Jesus(H)
13 Nang dumating si Jesus sa nasasakupan ng Cesarea Filipos, tinanong niya ang kanyang mga alagad, na sinasabi, “Ano ba ang sinasabi ng mga tao kung sino ang Anak ng Tao?”
14 At(I) sinabi nila, “Ang sabi ng iba ay si Juan na Tagapagbautismo, ang iba ay si Elias; at ang iba ay si Jeremias, o isa sa mga propeta.”
15 Sinabi niya sa kanila, “Ngunit ano ang sinasabi ninyo kung sino ako?”
16 Sumagot(J) si Simon Pedro at sinabi, “Ikaw ang Cristo, ang Anak ng Diyos na buháy.”
17 Sumagot si Jesus at sinabi sa kanya, “Mapalad ka, Simon na anak ni Jonas! Sapagkat hindi laman at dugo ang nagpahayag nito sa iyo kundi ang aking Ama na nasa langit.
18 At sinasabi ko naman sa iyo, na ikaw ay Pedro,[b] at sa ibabaw ng batong[c] ito ay itatayo ko ang aking iglesya; at ang mga pintuan ng Hades ay hindi magwawagi laban sa kanya.
19 Ibibigay(K) ko sa iyo ang mga susi ng kaharian ng langit, at anumang iyong talian sa lupa ay tatalian sa langit; at anumang iyong kalagan sa lupa ay kakalagan sa langit.”
20 Pagkatapos ay mahigpit niyang ipinagbilin sa mga alagad na huwag sasabihin kaninuman na siya ang Cristo.
Ipinahayag ni Jesus ang Kanyang Kamatayan(L)
21 Mula ng panahong iyon ay pinasimulan ni Jesus na ipaliwanag sa kanyang mga alagad na kailangang pumunta siya sa Jerusalem at magtiis ng maraming bagay sa kamay ng matatanda, ng mga punong pari at mga eskriba. Siya'y papatayin at muling bubuhayin sa ikatlong araw.
22 At inilayo siya ni Pedro at sinimulang pigilan siya, na sinasabi, “Huwag nawang itulot ng Diyos, Panginoon! Hindi kailanman mangyayari ito sa iyo.”
23 Ngunit lumingon siya at sinabi kay Pedro, “Layuan mo ako, Satanas! Ikaw ay isang katitisuran sa akin; sapagkat hindi mo iniisip ang mga bagay ng Diyos, kundi ang mga bagay ng tao.”
24 Pagkatapos(M) ay sinabi ni Jesus sa kanyang mga alagad, “Kung ang sinuman ay ibig sumunod sa akin, tanggihan niya ang kanyang sarili, at pasanin ang kanyang krus, at sumunod sa akin.
25 Sapagkat(N) ang sinumang nagnanais magligtas ng kanyang buhay[d] ay mawawalan nito; ngunit ang sinumang mawalan ng kanyang buhay dahil sa akin ay makakatagpo nito.
26 Sapagkat ano ang mapapakinabang ng tao, kung makamtan niya ang buong sanlibutan ngunit mawawala naman ang kanyang buhay? O ano ang ibibigay ng tao na katumbas ng kanyang buhay?
27 Sapagkat(O) darating ang Anak ng Tao na kasama ang kanyang mga anghel sa kaluwalhatian ng kanyang Ama; at kanyang gagantihan ang bawat tao ayon sa kanyang mga gawa.
28 Katotohanang sinasabi ko sa inyo, may ilan sa nakatayo rito, na hindi makakatikim ng kamatayan, hanggang makita nila ang Anak ng Tao na dumarating sa kanyang kaharian.”

16 At nagsilapit (A)ang mga Fariseo at mga Saduceo, na tinutukso siya na sa kaniya'y nagsisihiling na sila'y pagpakitaan ng isang tanda na mula sa langit.
2 Datapuwa't siya'y sumagot at sa kanila'y sinabi, (B)Sa kinahapunan, ay sinasabi ninyo, Bubuti ang panahon: sapagka't ang langit ay mapula.
3 At sa umaga, Ngayo'y uunos: sapagka't mapula at makulimlim ang langit. Kayo'y marurunong magsikilala ng anyo ng langit; datapuwa't hindi ninyo mangakilala ang mga tanda ng mga panahon.
4 Ang isang lahing masama at (C)mapangalunya ay humahanap ng tanda; at hindi siya bibigyan ng anomang tanda, kundi ng tanda ni Jonas. At sila'y iniwan niya, at yumaon.
5 At nagsidating ang mga alagad sa kabilang ibayo at nangakalimot na mangagdala ng tinapay.
6 At sinabi sa kanila ni Jesus, Kayo'y mangagingat at magsipangilag sa (D)lebadura ng mga Fariseo at mga Saduceo.
7 At sila'y nangagkatuwiranan sa kanilang sarili, na nagsasabi, Hindi tayo nangakapagbaon ng tinapay.
8 At nang matalastas ni Jesus ay sinabi, Oh kayong kakaunti ang pananampalataya, bakit kayo'y nangagbubulaybulay sa inyong sarili, sapagka't wala kayong tinapay?
9 Hindi pa baga ninyo natatalastas, (E)at hindi ninyo naaalaala ang limang tinapay sa limang libong lalake, at kung ilang bakol ang inyong nailigpit?
10 Ni yaong pitong tinapay (F)sa apat na libong lalake, at kung ilang bakol ang inyong nailigpit?
11 Ano't hindi ninyo napaguunawa na hindi ang sinabi ko sa inyo'y tungkol sa tinapay? Datapuwa't kayo'y mangagingat sa lebadura ng mga Fariseo at ng mga Saduceo.
12 Nang magkagayo'y kanilang natalastas na sa kanila'y hindi ipinagutos na sila'y magsipagingat sa lebadura ng tinapay, kundi sa mga aral ng mga Fariseo at ng mga Saduceo.
13 Nang dumating nga si Jesus sa mga sakop ng Cesarea ni Filipo, ay itinanong niya sa kaniyang mga alagad, na sinasabi, (G)Ano baga ang sabi ng mga tao kung sino ang Anak ng tao?
14 At kanilang sinabi, (H)Anang ilan, Si Juan Bautista; ang ilan, Si Elias; at ang mga iba, Si Jeremias, o isa sa mga propeta.
15 Kaniyang sinabi sa kanila, Datapuwa't, ano ang sabi ninyo kung sino ako?
16 At sumagot si Simon Pedro at sinabi, Ikaw ang Cristo, (I)Ang anak ng (J)Dios na buhay.
17 At sumagot si Jesus at sa kaniya'y sinabi, Mapalad ka, (K)Simon Bar-Jonas: sapagka't hindi ipinahayag sa iyo ito ng (L)laman at ng dugo, kundi ng aking Ama na nasa langit.
18 At sinasabi ko naman sa iyo, na (M)ikaw ay Pedro, at (N)sa ibabaw ng batong ito ay itatayo ko ang aking iglesia; at (O)ang mga pintuan ng Hades ay hindi magsisipanaig laban sa kaniya.
19 Ibibigay ko sa iyo (P)ang mga susi ng kaharian ng langit: (Q)at anomang iyong talian sa lupa ay tatalian sa langit; at anomang iyong kalagan sa lupa ay kakalagan sa langit.
20 Nang magkagayo'y ipinagbilin niya (R)sa mga alagad na huwag sabihin kanino man na siya ang Cristo.
21 Mula ng panahong yao'y nagpasimulang (S)ipinakilala ni Jesus sa kaniyang mga alagad, na kinakailangang (T)siya'y pumaroon sa Jerusalem, at magbata ng maraming bagay sa matatanda at sa mga pangulong saserdote at sa mga eskriba, at siya'y patayin, at (U)muling ibangon sa ikatlong araw.
22 At isinama siya ni Pedro, at nagpasimulang siya'y pinagwikaan, na nagsasabi, Panginoon, malayo ito sa iyo: kailan man ay hindi mangyayari ito sa iyo.
23 Datapuwa't lumingon siya, at sinabi kay Pedro, Lumagay ka sa likuran ko, Satanas: ikaw ay tisod sa akin: sapagka't hindi mo pinagiisip ang mga bagay ng Dios, kundi ang mga bagay ng tao.
24 Nang magkagayo'y (V)sinabi ni Jesus sa kaniyang mga alagad, Kung ang sinomang tao'y ibig sumunod sa akin ay tumanggi sa kaniyang sarili, at pasanin ang kaniyang krus, at sumunod sa akin.
25 Sapagka't (W)ang sinomang magibig iligtas ang kaniyang buhay ay mawawalan nito: at ang sinomang mawalan ng kaniyang buhay dahil sa akin ay makakasumpong niyaon.
26 Sapagka't ano ang pakikinabangin ng tao, kung makamtan niya ang buong sanglibutan at mawawalan siya ng kaniyang buhay? o ano ang ibibigay ng tao na katumbas sa kaniyang buhay?
27 Sapagka't (X)ang Anak ng tao ay pariritong nasa kaluwalhatian ng kaniyang Ama na kasama ang kaniyang mga anghel; at kung magkagayo'y bibigyan ang bawa't tao ayon sa kaniyang mga gawa.
28 Katotohanang sinasabi ko sa inyo, May ilan sa nangakatayo rito, na hindi (Y)matitikman sa anomang paraan ang kamatayan, (Z)hanggang sa kanilang makita ang Anak ng tao na pumaparito sa kaniyang kaharian.

The Demand for a Sign(A)
16 The Pharisees and Sadducees(B) came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.(C)
2 He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ 3 and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.[a](D) 4 A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.”(E) Jesus then left them and went away.
The Yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees
5 When they went across the lake, the disciples forgot to take bread. 6 “Be careful,” Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”(F)
7 They discussed this among themselves and said, “It is because we didn’t bring any bread.”
8 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked, “You of little faith,(G) why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread? 9 Do you still not understand? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?(H) 10 Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?(I) 11 How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” 12 Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.(J)
Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah(K)
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;(L) others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”(M)
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”(N)
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood,(O) but by my Father in heaven.(P) 18 And I tell you that you are Peter,[b](Q) and on this rock I will build my church,(R) and the gates of Hades[c] will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys(S) of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[d] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[e] loosed in heaven.”(T) 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone(U) that he was the Messiah.
Jesus Predicts His Death(V)
21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem(W) and suffer many things(X) at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law,(Y) and that he must be killed(Z) and on the third day(AA) be raised to life.(AB)
22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”
23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan!(AC) You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.(AD) 25 For whoever wants to save their life[f] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.(AE) 26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 27 For the Son of Man(AF) is going to come(AG) in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.(AH)
28 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
