Take Up Your Cross and Follow Jesus

²⁴ Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him ^(A)deny himself and ^(B)take up his cross and follow me. ²⁵ For ^(C)whoever would save his life^[a] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. ²⁶ For ^(D)what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or ^(E)what shall a man give in return for his soul? ^27 (F)For the Son of Man is going to come with ^(G)his angels in the glory of his Father, and ^(H)then he will repay each person according to what he has done. ²⁸ Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not ^(I)taste death ^(J)until they see the Son of Man ^(K)coming in his kingdom.”

The Transfiguration

17 ^(L)And after six days Jesus took with him ^(M)Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. ² And he was ^(N)transfigured before them, and ^(O)his face shone like the sun, and ^(P)his clothes became white as light. ³ And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. ⁴ And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for ^(Q)Elijah.” ⁵ He was still speaking when, behold, ^(R)a bright cloud overshadowed them, and ^(S)a voice from the cloud said, ^(T)“This is my beloved Son,^[b] with whom I am well pleased; ^(U)listen to him.” ⁶ When ^(V)the disciples heard this, ^(W)they fell on their faces and were terrified. ⁷ But Jesus came and ^(X)touched them, saying, “Rise, and ^(Y)have no fear.” ⁸ And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
