18 And I also say to you that you are [a](A)Peter, and upon this [b]rock I will build My church; and the gates of (B)Hades will not overpower it. 19 I will give you (C)the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and (D)whatever you [c]bind on earth [d]shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you [e]loose on earth [f]shall have been loosed in heaven.”

41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand [a](A)souls. 42 They were (B)continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to (C)the breaking of bread and (D)to [b]prayer.

43 [c]Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many (E)wonders and [d]signs were taking place through the apostles. 44 And all the believers [e]were together and (F)had all things in common; 45 and they (G)would sell their property and possessions and share them with all, to the extent that anyone had need. 46 (H)Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and (I)breaking bread [f]from house to house, they were taking their [g]meals together with gladness and [h]sincerity of heart, 47 praising God and (J)having favor with all the people. And the Lord (K)was adding to [i]their number day by day (L)those who were being saved.

11 And (A)great fear came over the whole church, and over all who heard about these things.

12 [a]At the hands of the apostles many [b](B)signs and wonders were taking place among the people; and they were all [c]together in (C)Solomon’s [d]portico. 13 But none of the rest dared to associate with them; however, (D)the people held them in high esteem. 14 And increasingly (E)believers in the Lord, large numbers of men and women, were being (F)added to their number,

Marriage like Christ and the Church

22 (A)Wives, (B)subject yourselves to your own husbands, (C)as to the Lord. 23 For (D)the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the (E)head of the church, He Himself (F)being the Savior of the body. 24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.

25 (G)Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and (H)gave Himself up for her, 26 (I)so that He might sanctify her, having (J)cleansed her by the (K)washing of water with (L)the word, 27 that He might (M)present to Himself the church [a]in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be (N)holy and blameless. 28 So husbands also ought to (O)love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; 29 for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, 30 because we are (P)parts of His (Q)body. 31 (R)For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. 32 This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church.
