39 And sending away the crowds, Jesus got into (A)the boat and came to the region of (B)Magadan.

Pharisees and Sadducees Test Jesus

16 (C)The (D)Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and putting Jesus to the test, they (E)asked Him to show them a [a]sign from heaven. But He replied to them, [b](F)When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ (G)You know how to discern the [c]appearance of the sky, but are you unable to discern the signs of the times? (H)An evil and adulterous generation wants a [d]sign; and so a [e]sign will not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah.” And He left them and went away.

And the disciples came to the other side of the sea, but they had forgotten to bring any bread. And Jesus said to them, “Watch out and (I)beware of the [f]leaven of the (J)Pharisees and Sadducees.” They began to discuss this among themselves, saying, “He said that because we did not bring any bread.” But Jesus, aware of this, said, (K)You men of little faith, why are you discussing among yourselves the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet understand nor remember (L)the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets you picked up? 10 Nor (M)the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many large baskets you picked up? 11 How is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you about bread? But (N)beware of the [g]leaven of the (O)Pharisees and Sadducees.” 12 Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the [h]leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the (P)Pharisees and Sadducees.

The Pharisees and Sadducees Seek a Sign(B)

16 Then the (C)Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven. He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ [b]Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times. (D)A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of [c]the prophet Jonah.” And He left them and departed.

The Leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees(E)

Now (F)when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. Then Jesus said to them, (G)“Take heed and beware of the [d]leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.”

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “It is because we have taken no bread.”

But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, “O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves because you [e]have brought no bread? (H)Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up? 10 (I)Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many large baskets you took up? 11 How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread?—but to beware of the [f]leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” 12 Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the [g]doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
