Jesus Heals Many

²⁹^(A)Jesus went on from there and walked ^(B)beside the Sea of Galilee. And he ^(C)went up on the mountain and sat down there. ³⁰And great crowds came to him, bringing with them ^(D)the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and they put them at his feet, and he healed them, ³¹^(E)so that the crowd wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, ^(F)the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And ^(G)they glorified ^(H)the God of Israel.

Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand

³²^(I)Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, ^(J)“I have compassion on the crowd because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. And I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.” ³³And the disciples said to him, “Where are we to get enough bread in such a desolate place to feed so great a crowd?” ³⁴And Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, ^(K)“Seven, and a few small fish.” ³⁵And directing the crowd to sit down on the ground, ³⁶he took the seven loaves and the fish, and ^(L)having given thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. ³⁷And ^(M)they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces left over. ³⁸Those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children. ³⁹And after sending away the crowds, he got into the boat and went to the region of ^(N)Magadan.

Jesus Heals a Deaf Man

³¹^(A)Then he returned from the region of Tyre and went through Sidon to ^(B)the Sea of Galilee, in the region of the ^(C)Decapolis. ³²And they brought to him ^(D)a man who was deaf and ^(E)had a speech impediment, and they begged him to ^(F)lay his hand on him. ³³And ^(G)taking him aside from the crowd privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and ^(H)after spitting touched his tongue. ³⁴And ^(I)looking up to heaven, ^(J)he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” ³⁵^(K)And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. ³⁶And ^(L)Jesus^[a] charged them to tell no one. But ^(M)the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. ³⁷And they were ^(N)astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

8 ^(O)In those days, when again a great crowd had gathered, and they had nothing to eat, he called his disciples to him and said to them, ²^(P)“I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. ³And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. And some of them have come from far away.” ⁴And his disciples answered him, “How can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?” ⁵And he asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, ^(Q)“Seven.” ⁶And he directed the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves, and ^(R)having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and they set them before the crowd. ⁷And they had a few small fish. And ^(S)having blessed them, he said that these also should be set before them. ⁸And ^(T)they ate and were satisfied. And they took up the broken pieces left over, ^(U)seven baskets full. ⁹And there were about four thousand people. And he sent them away. ¹⁰And immediately he got into ^(V)the boat with his disciples and went to the district of ^(W)Dalmanutha.^[b]
