Matthew 15:22-28

New International Version

²²A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David,^(A) have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”^(B)

²³Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”

²⁴He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”^(C)

²⁵The woman came and knelt before him.^(D) “Lord, help me!” she said.

²⁶He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

²⁷“Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”

²⁸Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith!^(E) Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.

Psalm 27:7-14

⁷Hear my voice^(A) when I call, Lord;
    be merciful to me and answer me.^(B)
⁸My heart says of you, “Seek his face!^(C)”
    Your face, Lord, I will seek.
⁹Do not hide your face^(D) from me,
    do not turn your servant away in anger;^(E)
    you have been my helper.^(F)
Do not reject me or forsake^(G) me,
    God my Savior.^(H)
¹⁰Though my father and mother forsake me,
    the Lord will receive me.
¹¹Teach me your way,^(I) Lord;
    lead me in a straight path^(J)
    because of my oppressors.^(K)
¹²Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes,
    for false witnesses^(L) rise up against me,
    spouting malicious accusations.

¹³I remain confident of this:
    I will see the goodness of the Lord^(M)
    in the land of the living.^(N)
¹⁴Wait^(O) for the Lord;
    be strong^(P) and take heart
    and wait for the Lord.
