John the Baptist Beheaded(A)
14 At that time (B)Herod the tetrarch heard the report about Jesus 2 and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.” 3 (C)For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife. 4 Because John had said to him, (D)“It is not lawful for you to have her.” 5 And although he wanted to put him to death, he feared the multitude, (E)because they counted him as a prophet.
6 But when Herod’s birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod. 7 Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask.
8 So she, having been prompted by her mother, said, “Give me John the Baptist’s head here on a platter.”
9 And the king was sorry; nevertheless, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he commanded it to be given to her. 10 So he sent and had John beheaded in prison. 11 And his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. 12 Then his disciples came and took away the body and buried it, and went and told Jesus.
Feeding the Five Thousand(F)
13 (G)When Jesus heard it, He departed from there by boat to a deserted place by Himself. But when the multitudes heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities. 14 And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He (H)was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. 15 (I)When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.”
16 But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
17 And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.”
18 He said, “Bring them here to Me.” 19 Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, (J)He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. 20 So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. 21 Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
Jesus Walks on the Sea(K)
22 Immediately Jesus [a]made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. 23 (L)And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. (M)Now when evening came, He was alone there. 24 But the boat was now [b]in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. 26 And when the disciples saw Him (N)walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.
27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, [c]“Be of good (O)cheer! [d]It is I; do not be afraid.”
28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”
29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw [e]that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of (P)little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
33 Then those who were in the boat [f]came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly (Q)You are the Son of God.”
Many Touch Him and Are Made Well(R)
34 (S)When they had crossed over, they came [g]to the land of Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, brought to Him all who were sick, 36 and begged Him that they might only (T)touch the hem of His garment. And (U)as many as touched it were made perfectly well.

The Death of John the Baptist
14 (A)At that time (B)Herod the tetrarch heard about the fame of Jesus, 2 and he said to his servants, (C)“This is John the Baptist. He has been raised from the dead; that is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.” 3 For (D)Herod had seized John and bound him and (E)put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife,[a] 4 because John had been saying to him, (F)“It is not lawful for you to have her.” 5 And though he wanted to put him to death, (G)he feared the people, because they held him to be (H)a prophet. 6 But when Herod's (I)birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company and pleased Herod, 7 so that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. 8 Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter.” 9 And the king was sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he commanded it to be given. 10 He sent and had John beheaded in the prison, 11 and his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. 12 And (J)his disciples came and took the body and buried it, and they went and told Jesus.
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand
13 Now when Jesus heard this, (K)he withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When he went ashore he (L)saw a great crowd, and (M)he had compassion on them and healed their sick. 15 Now when it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the day is now over; (N)send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” 16 But Jesus said, “They need not go away; (O)you give them something to eat.” 17 They said to him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” 18 And he said, “Bring them here to me.” 19 Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and taking the five loaves and the two fish, (P)he looked up to heaven and (Q)said a blessing. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 20 And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. 21 And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
Jesus Walks on the Water
22 (R)Immediately he (S)made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, (T)he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When (U)evening came, he was there alone, 24 but the boat by this time was a long way[b] from the land,[c] beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. 25 And (V)in the fourth watch of the night[d] he came to them, walking on the sea. 26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, (W)they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, (X)“Take heart; it is I. (Y)Do not be afraid.”
28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and (Z)walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind,[e] he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, (AA)“Lord, save me.” 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, (AB)“O you of little faith, why did you (AC)doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, (AD)the wind ceased. 33 And (AE)those in the boat (AF)worshiped him, saying, (AG)“Truly you are (AH)the Son of God.”
Jesus Heals the Sick in Gennesaret
34 (AI)And when they had crossed over, they came to land at (AJ)Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized him, they sent around to all that region and (AK)brought to him all who were sick 36 and implored him that they might only touch (AL)the fringe of his garment. And (AM)as many as touched it were made well.

La muerte de Juan el Bautista
14 En aquel tiempo, Herodes el tetrarca oyó la fama de Jesús 2 y dijo a sus criados: “¡Este es Juan el Bautista! Él ha resucitado de los muertos; por esta razón operan estos poderes en él”.
3 Porque Herodes había prendido a Juan, lo había atado con cadenas y puesto en la cárcel por causa de Herodía, la mujer de su hermano Felipe. 4 Porque Juan le decía: “No te es lícito tenerla por mujer”. 5 Y aunque Herodes quería matarlo, temió al pueblo; porque le tenían por profeta.
6 Pero cuando se celebró el cumpleaños de Herodes, la hija de Herodía danzó en medio y agradó a Herodes, 7 por lo cual él se comprometió bajo juramento a darle lo que ella pidiera. 8 Ella, instigada por su madre, dijo: “Dame aquí en un plato la cabeza de Juan el Bautista”.
9 Entonces el rey se entristeció; pero a causa del juramento y de los que estaban con él a la mesa, mandó que se la dieran. 10 Mandó decapitar a Juan en la cárcel. 11 Y su cabeza fue traída en un plato y fue dada a la muchacha, y ella la presentó a su madre.
12 Entonces llegaron sus discípulos, tomaron el cuerpo y lo enterraron. Luego fueron y se lo contaron a Jesús.
Jesús alimenta a cinco mil
13 Al oírlo, Jesús se apartó de allí en una barca a un lugar desierto y apartado. Cuando las multitudes oyeron esto, lo siguieron a pie desde las ciudades. 14 Cuando Jesús salió, vio la gran multitud y tuvo compasión de ellos, y sanó a los que entre ellos estaban enfermos. 15 Al atardecer, sus discípulos se acercaron a él y le dijeron:
—El lugar es desierto, y la hora ya avanzada. Despide a la gente para que vayan a las aldeas y compren para sí algo de comer.
16 Pero Jesús les dijo:
—No tienen necesidad de irse. Denles ustedes de comer.
17 Entonces ellos dijeron:
—No tenemos aquí sino cinco panes y dos pescados.
18 Él les dijo:
—Tráiganmelos acá.
19 Luego mandó que la gente se recostara sobre la hierba. Tomó los cinco panes y los dos pescados y, alzando los ojos al cielo, los bendijo. Después de partirlos, dio los panes a sus discípulos, y ellos a la gente. 20 Todos comieron y se saciaron, y se recogieron doce canastas llenas de lo que sobró de los pedazos. 21 Los que comieron eran como cinco mil hombres, sin contar las mujeres y los niños.
Jesús camina sobre el agua
22 Y en seguida Jesús obligó a sus discípulos a entrar en la barca e ir delante de él a la otra orilla, mientras él despedía a las multitudes. 23 Una vez despedida la gente, subió al monte para orar a solas; y cuando llegó la noche, estaba allí solo. 24 La barca ya quedaba a gran distancia[a] de la tierra, azotada por las olas, porque el viento era contrario. 25 Y a la madrugada[b], Jesús fue a ellos caminando sobre el mar. 26 Pero cuando los discípulos lo vieron caminando sobre el mar, se turbaron diciendo:
—¡Un fantasma!
Y gritaron de miedo. 27 En seguida Jesús les habló diciendo:
—¡Tengan ánimo! ¡Yo soy! ¡No teman!
28 Entonces le respondió Pedro y dijo:
—Señor, si eres tú, manda que yo vaya a ti sobre las aguas.
29 Y él dijo:
—Ven.
Pedro descendió de la barca y caminó sobre las aguas, y fue hacia Jesús. 30 Pero al ver el viento fuerte tuvo miedo y comenzó a hundirse. Entonces gritó diciendo:
—¡Señor, sálvame!
31 De inmediato Jesús extendió la mano, lo sostuvo y le dijo:
—¡Oh hombre de poca fe! ¿Por qué dudaste?
32 Cuando ellos subieron a la barca, se calmó el viento. 33 Entonces los que estaban en la barca lo adoraron diciendo:
—¡Verdaderamente eres Hijo de Dios!
Jesús sana a muchos en Genesaret
34 Cuando cruzaron a la otra orilla, llegaron a la tierra de Genesaret. 35 Y cuando los hombres de aquel lugar lo reconocieron, mandaron a decirlo por toda aquella región, y trajeron a él todos los que estaban enfermos. 36 Y le rogaban que solo pudieran tocar el borde de su manto, y todos los que lo tocaron quedaron sanos.
