¹² John’s disciples came and took his body and buried it.^(A) Then they went and told Jesus.

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand^(B)(C)

¹³ When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns.

³² That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed.^{(A) 33} The whole town gathered at the door, ³⁴ and Jesus healed many who had various diseases.^(B) He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.^(C)

Jesus Prays in a Solitary Place^(D)

³⁵ Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.^(E)

³⁰ The apostles^(C) gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught.^{(D) 31} Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat,^(E) he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

¹⁵ Yet the news about him spread all the more,^(A) so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. ¹⁶ But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.^(B)
