¹⁹ When anyone hears the word of ^(A)the kingdom and ^(B)does not understand it, ^(C)the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.

^43 (A)But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night ^(B)the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into.

¹⁰ And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and ^(A)those who were ready went in with him to ^(B)the marriage feast, and ^(C)the door was shut. ¹¹ Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ^(D)‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ ^12 (E)But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, ^(F)I do not know you.’ ^13 (G)Watch therefore, for you ^(H)know neither the day nor the hour.

Watch Yourselves

³⁴ “But watch yourselves ^(A)lest ^(B)your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and ^(C)cares of this life, and ^(D)that day come upon you suddenly ^(E)like a trap. ³⁵ For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. ³⁶ But ^(F)stay awake at all times, ^(G)praying that you may ^(H)have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and ^(I)to stand before the Son of Man.”

² For you yourselves are fully aware that ^(A)the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. ³ While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then ^(B)sudden destruction will come upon them ^(C)as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. ⁴ But you ^(D)are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.

¹⁰ But ^(A)the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then ^(B)the heavens will pass away with a roar, and ^(C)the heavenly bodies^[a] will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.^[b]

^3 (A)Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, ^(B)I will come ^(C)like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you.
