Lord of the Sabbath

⁸For ^(A)the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

⁹^(B)Departing from there, He went into their synagogue. ¹⁰And a man was there whose hand was withered. And they questioned ^[a]Jesus, asking, “^(C)Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—so that they might bring charges against Him. ¹¹But He said to them, “^(D)What man ^[b]is there among you who ^[c]has a sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it and lift it out? ¹²^(E)How much more valuable then is a person than a sheep! So then, it is lawful to do ^[d]good on the Sabbath.” ¹³Then He *said to the man, “Stretch out your hand!” ^(F)He stretched it out, and it was restored to ^[e]normal, like the other. ¹⁴But the Pharisees went out and ^[f]^(G)conspired against Him, as to how they might destroy Him.

¹⁵But Jesus, ^[g]aware of this, withdrew from there. Many followed Him, and ^(H)He healed them all, ¹⁶and ^(I)warned them not to ^[h]tell who He was. ¹⁷This happened so that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled:

¹⁸“^(J)Behold, My ^[i]Servant whom I ^[j]have chosen;
^(K)My Beloved in whom My soul ^[k]delights;
^(L)I will put My Spirit upon Him,
^(M)And He will proclaim ^[l]justice to the ^[m]Gentiles.
¹⁹^(N)He will not quarrel, nor cry out;
Nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.
²⁰^(O)A bent reed He will not break off,
And a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish,
Until He ^[n]leads ^[o]justice to victory.
²¹^(P)And in His name the ^[p]Gentiles will hope.”
