Jesus’ Mother and Brothers

⁴⁶ And^[a] while^[b] he was still speaking to the crowds, behold, his mother and brothers were standing there outside, desiring to speak to him. ⁴⁷ And someone told him, “Behold, your mother and your brothers are standing there outside desiring to speak to you.” ⁴⁸ But he answered and^[c] said to the one who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” ⁴⁹ And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Behold my mother and my brothers! ⁵⁰ For whoever does the will of my Father who is in heaven, he is my brother and sister and mother.”

³¹ And his mother and his brothers arrived, and standing outside, they sent word to him to summon him. ³² And a crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Behold, your mother and your brothers^[a] are outside looking for you.” ³³ And he answered them and^[b] said, “Who is my mother or^[c] my brothers?” ³⁴ And looking around at those who were sitting around him in a circle, he said, “Behold, my mother and my brothers! ³⁵ For whoever does the will of God, this person is my brother and sister and mother.”

Jesus’ Mother and Brothers

¹⁹ Now his mother and brothers came to him, and they were not able to meet with him because of the crowd. ²⁰ And it was reported to him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside wanting to see you.” ²¹ But he answered and^[a] said to them, “These are my mother and my brothers—the ones who hear the word of God and do it.^[b]

²⁹ And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife^[a] or children or fields on account of my name will receive a hundred times as much, and will inherit eternal life.

⁵ having predestined us to adoption through Jesus Christ to himself according to the good pleasure of his will,

⁴ But when the fullness of time came, God sent out his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, ⁵ in order that he might redeem those under the law, in order that we might receive the adoption. ⁶ And because you are sons, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying out, “Abba!^[a] (Father!),” ⁷ so that you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, also an heir through God.

²⁹ because those whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he should be the firstborn among many brothers.
