John the Baptist Asks about Jesus (A)
11 When Jesus finished telling His twelve followers what to do, He went away from there to teach and preach in their towns.
2 When John the Baptist was in prison, he heard what Jesus was doing. He sent his followers. 3 They asked, “Are You the One Who was to come, or should we look for another?” 4 Jesus said to them, “Go and tell John what you see and hear. 5 The blind are made to see. Those who could not walk are walking. Those who have had bad skin diseases are healed. Those who could not hear are hearing. The dead are raised up to life and the Good News is preached to poor people. 6 He is happy who is not ashamed of Me and does not turn away because of Me.”
Jesus Tells about John the Baptist (B)
7 As the followers of John the Baptist went away, Jesus began to tell the people about John. He said, “What did you go out to see in the desert? A small tree shaking in the wind? 8 But what did you go out to see? A man dressed in good clothes? Those who are dressed in good clothes are in the houses of kings. 9 What did you go out to see? One who speaks for God? Yes, I tell you, he is more than one who speaks for God. 10 This is the man the Holy Writings spoke of when they said, ‘See! I will send My helper to carry news ahead of You. He will make Your way ready for You!’ (C) 11 For sure, I tell you, of those born of women, there is no one greater than John the Baptist. The least in the holy nation of heaven is greater than he. 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the holy nation of heaven has suffered very much. Fighting men try to take it. 13 All the early preachers and the Law told about it until the time of John. 14 And if you will believe it, he is Elijah who was to come. (D) 15 You have ears, then listen!
Jesus Speaks Against Cities in Galilee
16 “What are the people of this day like? They are like children playing in the center of town where people gather. They call to their friends. 17 They say, ‘We played music for you, but you did not dance. We showed sorrow in front of you, but you did not show sorrow.’ 18 John came and did not eat or drink. They said, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 Then the Son of Man came and ate and drank. They said, ‘See! He eats too much and likes wine. He is a friend of men who gather taxes and of sinners!’ But wisdom shows itself to be right by what it does.”
20 Then He began to say strong words against the cities where most of His powerful works were done. He spoke to them because they were not sorry for their sins and did not turn from them. 21 “It is bad for you, city of Chorazin! It is bad for you, town of Bethsaida! For if the powerful works which were done in you had been done in the cities of Tyre and Sidon, they would have turned from their sins long ago. They would have shown their sorrow by putting on clothes made from hair and would have sat in ashes. 22 I tell you, it will be better for Tyre and Sidon on the day men stand before God and are told they are guilty, than for you.
23 “And Capernaum, are you to be lifted up into heaven? You will be taken down to hell. If the powerful works which were done in you had been done in the city of Sodom, it would be here to this day. 24 But I say to you that it will be better for the land of Sodom on the day men stand before God and are told they are guilty, than for you.”
Jesus Prays to His Father
25 At that time Jesus said, “Thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You hid these things from the wise and from those who have much learning. You have shown them to little children. 26 Yes, Father, it was good in Your sight.
27 “Everything has been given to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son but the Father. No one knows the Father but the Son, and those to whom the Son wants to make the Father known.
Jesus Calls People to Follow Him
28 “Come to Me, all of you who work and have heavy loads. I will give you rest. 29 Follow My teachings and learn from Me. I am gentle and do not have pride. You will have rest for your souls. 30 For My way of carrying a load is easy and My load is not heavy.”

Jesús y Juan el Bautista
(Lc 7:18-35)
11 Cuando Jesús terminó de darles instrucciones a sus doce seguidores, se fue de ahí a otros pueblos de Galilea a enseñar y a anunciar el mensaje.
2 Cuando Juan el Bautista estaba en la cárcel y escuchó lo que hacía el Mesías, le envió un mensaje con sus seguidores. 3 Ellos le preguntaron a Jesús:
—¿Eres el que iba a venir o debemos esperar a alguien más?
4 Jesús les contestó:
—Vayan y cuéntenle a Juan lo que están viendo y oyendo. 5 Los ciegos ven, los cojos caminan, los leprosos son sanados, los sordos oyen, los muertos resucitan y a los pobres se les anuncia la buena noticia. 6 Afortunado el que no dude de mí.[a]
7 Mientras se iban los seguidores de Juan, Jesús comenzó a hablar acerca de Juan a la multitud: «¿Qué salieron a ver al desierto? ¿Hierba[b] azotada por el viento? 8 Si no, ¿qué salieron a ver? ¿A un hombre vestido con ropa fina? ¡Escuchen! Los que se visten con ropa fina viven en palacios. 9 ¿Entonces qué es lo que salieron a ver? ¿A un profeta? Sí, les digo que Juan es más que un profeta. 10 (A)Las Escrituras dicen de él:
»“Oye, te envío mi mensajero delante de ti,
quien preparará el camino para tu venida”.[c]
11 »Les digo la verdad: de todos los hombres que han vivido, ninguno ha sido más importante que Juan el Bautista. Sin embargo, el menos importante en el reino de Dios es más importante que Juan. 12 Desde el tiempo de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, el reino de Dios avanza con poder, y han intentado apoderarse de él por la fuerza. 13 Antes de que viniera Juan, todos los profetas y la ley hablaron de lo que iba a suceder. 14 Y si tú crees en lo que dicen la ley y los profetas, entonces creerás que Juan el Bautista es Elías, el profeta que iba a venir. 15 ¡Oigan bien lo que les digo!
16 »¿Con quién puedo comparar a la gente de esta generación? Son como los muchachos que se sientan en las plazas y un grupo le grita al otro:
17 »“¡Nosotros tocamos la flauta,
pero ustedes no bailaron.
Cantamos una canción triste,
pero ustedes no lloraron!”
18 »Porque vino Juan, sin comer ni beber vino como los demás, y la gente dice que tiene un demonio. 19 Vino el Hijo del hombre que come y bebe, y dicen: “Miren, es comilón, borracho y amigo de los cobradores de impuestos y de los pecadores”. Pero la sabiduría divina se comprueba por la vida de los que la siguen».
Jesús advierte a los que no creen
(Lc 10:13-15)
20 Luego, Jesús comenzó a reprender a los pueblos donde había hecho la mayoría de sus milagros, porque no cambiaban su vida ni se apartaban del pecado. 21 Decía: «¡Pobre de ti, Corazín! ¡Pobre de ti, Betsaida! Porque si los milagros que se hicieron en ustedes se hubieran hecho en Tiro y en Sidón, ellos habrían cambiado su vida hace mucho tiempo. Se habrían puesto ropa áspera y echado ceniza en la cabeza para mostrar dolor por sus pecados. 22 Pero les digo que en el día del juicio les irá mejor a Tiro y a Sidón que a ustedes. 23 Y tú Capernaúm, ¿de verdad piensas que subirás al cielo? ¡Pues no! ¡Bajarás hasta el infierno! Si los milagros que hice en ti se hubieran hecho en Sodoma, esa ciudad todavía existiría. 24 Pero les digo que el día del juicio, Dios mostrará más paciencia con Sodoma que con ustedes».
Jesús le ofrece descanso a su pueblo
(Lc 10:21-22)
25 En esa ocasión Jesús dijo: «Te alabo Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque has escondido estas cosas de los sabios y entendidos, y se las has revelado a estos que son como niños. 26 Sí Padre, porque así te agradó.
27 »Mi Padre me ha dado todo. Nadie conoce al Hijo, sino el Padre; y nadie conoce al Padre, sino el Hijo y aquellos a quienes el Hijo quiera mostrárselo.
28 »Vengan a mí los que estén cansados y agobiados, que yo los haré descansar. 29 Acepten mi enseñanza[d] y aprendan de mí que soy paciente y humilde. Conmigo encontrarán descanso. 30 Mi enseñanza es agradable y mi carga es fácil de llevar».

John the Baptist Sends Messengers to Jesus(A)
11 Now it came to pass, when Jesus finished commanding His twelve disciples, that He departed from there to (B)teach and to preach in their cities.
2 (C)And when John had heard (D)in prison about the works of Christ, he [a]sent two of his disciples 3 and said to Him, “Are You (E)the Coming One, or do we look for another?”
4 Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: 5 (F)The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and (G)the poor have the gospel preached to them. 6 And blessed is he who is not (H)offended because of Me.”
7 (I)As they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? (J)A reed shaken by the wind? 8 But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. 9 But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, (K)and more than a prophet. 10 For this is he of whom it is written:
(L)‘Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,
Who will prepare Your way before You.’
11 “Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 (M)And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. 13 (N)For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14 And if you are willing to receive it, he is (O)Elijah who is to come. 15 (P)He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
16 (Q)“But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions, 17 and saying:
‘We played the flute for you,
And you did not dance;
We mourned to you,
And you did not [b]lament.’
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a [c]winebibber, (R)a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ (S)But wisdom is justified by her [d]children.”
Woe to the Impenitent Cities(T)
20 (U)Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent: 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago (V)in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I say to you, (W)it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, (X)who[e] are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24 But I say to you (Y)that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.”
Jesus Gives True Rest(Z)
25 (AA)At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that (AB)You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent (AC)and have revealed them to babes. 26 Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. 27 (AD)All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. (AE)Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. 28 Come to (AF)Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you (AG)and learn from Me, for I am [f]gentle and (AH)lowly in heart, (AI)and you will find rest for your souls. 30 (AJ)For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
