Matthew 11
New International Version
Jesus and John the Baptist(A)
11 After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples,(B) he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee.[a]
2 When John,(C) who was in prison,(D) heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples 3 to ask him, “Are you the one who is to come,(E) or should we expect someone else?”
4 Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy[b] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.(F) 6 Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”(G)
7 As John’s(H) disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness(I) to see? A reed swayed by the wind? 8 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces. 9 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet?(J) Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 This is the one about whom it is written:
11 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence,[d] and violent people have been raiding it. 13 For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.(M) 14 And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come.(N) 15 Whoever has ears, let them hear.(O)
16 “To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:
17 “‘We played the pipe for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge,
and you did not mourn.’
18 For John came neither eating(P) nor drinking,(Q) and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’(R) But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”
Woe on Unrepentant Towns(S)
20 Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!(T) For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon,(U) they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.(V) 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.(W) 23 And you, Capernaum,(X) will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.[e](Y) For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. 24 But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”(Z)
The Father Revealed in the Son(AA)
25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father,(AB) Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.(AC) 26 Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
27 “All things have been committed to me(AD) by my Father.(AE) No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.(AF)
28 “Come to me,(AG) all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.(AH) 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,(AI) for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.(AJ) 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”(AK)

4 В ответ Иисус сказал им: «Идите и скажите Иоанну о том, что видите и слышите: 5 слепые прозревают, хромые начинают ходить, прокажённые очищаются, к глухим возвращается слух, мёртвые воскресают и нищим благовествуют. 6 Блажен тот, кто может принять Меня»[a].
7 Когда ученики Иоанна ушли, Иисус начал говорить людям об Иоанне: «На что вы ходили смотреть в пустыне? На немощного человека, который подобен тростнику, раскачиваемому ветром? 8 Так на что же вы ходили смотреть? На человека, одетого в роскошные одежды? Те, кто носят роскошные одежды, находятся в царских дворцах. 9 Так на что же вы ходили смотреть? На пророка? Да, говорю вам, он—больше, чем пророк. 10 Это о нём сказано в Писаниях:
„Смотри! Я посылаю перед Тобой вестника Своего.
Он подготовит Тебе путь”[b].
11 Правду вам говорю, что среди всех родившихся на земле не было никого, кто бы превосходил в величии Иоанна Крестителя. И всё же самый малый в Царстве Небесном превосходит его в величии. 12 С того времени, как Иоанн Креститель начал проповедовать и до сегодняшнего дня, Царство Небесное претерпело немало яростных нападений[c], и многие пытаются силой захватить его. 13 Все пророки и Закон Моисея предсказывали это до появления Иоанна. 14 И если вы веруете в то, что говорили пророки и Закон, то он, Иоанн, и есть Илия[d], чьё пришествие было предсказано. 15 Имеющий уши да услышит!
16 С кем сравню Я это поколение? Они подобны детям, сидящим на рыночной площади и кричащим другим детям:
17 „Мы играли для вас на свирели,
а вы не плясали!
Мы пели печальную песню,
а вы не печалились!”
18 Появился Иоанн, который не пил и не ел как другие, а они говорят: „Он одержим бесом!” 19 Потом появился Сын Человеческий, Который ест и пьёт как все, а они говорят: „Посмотрите на Этого Человека! Он слишком много ест и слишком много пьёт вина! Он—друг сборщиков налогов и грешников!” Но о мудрости судят по поступкам»[e].
Предостережение неверующим
(Лк. 10:13-15)
20 И стал Иисус укорять жителей тех городов, в которых было сотворено большинство чудес, за то, что они не покаялись в своих грехах. 21 Он сказал: «Горе тебе, Хоразин! Горе тебе, Вифсаида! Я говорю так потому, что если бы чудеса, которые свершились в вас, произошли в Тире и Сидоне, то их жители давно бы уже покаялись и надели власяницы, посыпав свои головы пеплом. 22 Но говорю вам: в Судный день вам будет хуже, чем Тиру и Сидону! 23 А ты, Капернаум, неужели будешь вознесён к славе небесной? Нет, ты отправишься вниз, в ад! Потому что если те чудеса, что свершились в тебе, произошли бы в Содоме, то этот город существовал бы и по сей день. 24 И скажу тебе, что в Судный день тебе будет хуже, чем Содому!»
Отдых уставшим
(Лк. 10:21-22)
25 И сказал тогда Иисус: «Славлю Тебя, Отец, Господь неба и земли, потому что Ты скрыл это от мудрых и понимающих и открыл всё простосердечным. 26 Да, Отец, Ты сделал так, потому что так Тебе было угодно.
27 Всё было передано мне Отцом Моим, и никто не знает Сына, кроме Отца, как никто не знает Отца, кроме Сына и того, кому Сын захочет открыть Его.
28 Придите ко Мне все вы, усталые и обременённые, и Я дам вам отдых. 29 Примите учение Моё[f] и учитесь у Меня, потому что Я кроток и смирен духом, и вы обретёте покой. 30 Потому что учение, которое передаю вам, легко, и бремя, что возлагаю на вас, нетяжко».

11 After Yeshua had finished instructing the twelve talmidim, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns nearby.
2 Meanwhile, Yochanan the Immerser, who had been put in prison, heard what the Messiah had been doing; so he sent a message to him through his talmidim, 3 asking, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for someone else?” 4 Yeshua answered, “Go and tell Yochanan what you are hearing and seeing — 5 the blind are seeing again, the lame are walking, people with tzara’at are being cleansed, the deaf are hearing,[a] the dead are being raised,[b] the Good News is being told to the poor[c] — 6 and how blessed is anyone not offended by me!”
7 As they were leaving, Yeshua began speaking about Yochanan to the crowds: “What did you go out to the desert to see? Reeds swaying in the breeze? 8 No? then what did you go out to see? Someone who was well dressed? Well-dressed people live in kings’ palaces. 9 Nu, so why did you go out? To see a prophet! Yes! and I tell you he’s much more than a prophet. 10 This is the one about whom the Tanakh says,
‘See, I am sending out my messenger ahead of you;
he will prepare your way before you.’[d]
11 Yes! I tell you that among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than Yochanan the Immerser! Yet the one who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he! 12 From the time of Yochanan the Immerser until now, the Kingdom of Heaven has been suffering violence; yes, violent ones are trying to snatch it away. 13 For all the prophets and the Torah prophesied until Yochanan. 14 Indeed, if you are willing to accept it, he is Eliyahu, whose coming was predicted. 15 If you have ears, then hear!
16 “Oh, what can I compare this generation with? They’re like children sitting in the marketplaces, calling out to each other,
17 ‘We made happy music,
but you wouldn’t dance!
We made sad music,
but you wouldn’t cry!’
18 For Yochanan came, fasting, not drinking — so they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came, eating freely and drinking wine — so they say, ‘Aha! A glutton and a drunkard! A friend of tax-collectors and sinners!’ Well, the proof of wisdom is in the actions it produces.”
20 Then Yeshua began to denounce the towns in which he had done most of his miracles, because the people had not turned from their sins to God. 21 “Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Beit-Tzaidah! Why, if the miracles done in you had been done in Tzor and Tzidon, they would long ago have put on sackcloth and ashes as evidence that they had changed their ways. 22 But I tell you it will be more bearable for Tzor and Tzidon than for you on the Day of Judgment! 23 And you, K’far-Nachum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will be brought down to Sh’ol![e] For if the miracles done in you had been done in S’dom, it would still be in existence today. 24 But I tell you that on the Day of Judgment it will be more bearable for the land of S’dom than for you!”
25 It was at that time that Yeshua said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you concealed these things from the sophisticated and educated and revealed them to ordinary folks. 26 Yes, Father, I thank you that it pleased you to do this.
27 “My Father has handed over everything to me. Indeed, no one fully knows the Son except the Father, and no one fully knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.
28 “Come to me, all of you who are struggling and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.[f] 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
