GOD’S WORD Translation
11 After Jesus finished giving his twelve disciples these instructions, he moved on from there to teach his message in their cities.
John Sends Two Disciples(A)
2 When John was in prison, he heard about the things Christ had done. So he sent his disciples 3 to ask Jesus, “Are you the one who is coming, or should we look for someone else?”
4 Jesus answered John’s disciples, “Go back, and tell John what you hear and see: 5 Blind people see again, lame people are walking, those with skin diseases are made clean, deaf people hear again, dead people are brought back to life, and poor people hear the Good News. 6 Whoever doesn’t lose his faith in me is indeed blessed.”
Jesus Speaks about John(B)
7 As they were leaving, Jesus spoke to the crowds about John. “What did you go into the desert to see? Tall grass swaying in the wind? 8 Really, what did you go to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Those who wear fine clothes are in royal palaces.
9 “Really, what did you go to see? A prophet? Let me tell you that he is far more than a prophet. 10 John is the one about whom Scripture says,
‘I’m sending my messenger ahead of you
to prepare the way in front of you.’
11 “I can guarantee this truth: Of all the people ever born, no one is greater than John the Baptizer. Yet, the least important person in the kingdom of heaven is greater than John. 12 From the time of John the Baptizer until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful people have been seizing it. 13 All the Prophets and Moses’ Teachings prophesied up to the time of John. 14 If you are willing to accept their message, John is the Elijah who was to come. 15 Let the person who has ears listen!
16 “How can I describe the people who are living now? They are like children who sit in the marketplaces and shout to other children,
17 ‘We played music for you,
but you didn’t dance.
We sang a funeral song,
but you didn’t show any sadness.’
18 “John came neither eating nor drinking, and people say, ‘There’s a demon in him!’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and people say, ‘Look at him! He’s a glutton and a drunk, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’
“Yet, wisdom is proved right by its actions.”
Jesus Warns Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum
20 Then Jesus denounced the cities where he had worked most of his miracles because they had not changed the way they thought and acted. 21 “How horrible it will be for you, Chorazin! How horrible it will be for you, Bethsaida! If the miracles worked in you had been worked in Tyre and Sidon, they would have changed the way they thought and acted long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 I can guarantee that judgment day will be better for Tyre and Sidon than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to heaven? No, you will go down to hell! If the miracles that had been worked in you had been worked in Sodom, it would still be there today. 24 I can guarantee that judgment day will be better for Sodom than for you.”
Jesus Praises the Father and Invites Disciples to Come to Him
25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for hiding these things from wise and intelligent people and revealing them to little children. 26 Yes, Father, this is what pleased you.
27 “My Father has turned everything over to me. Only the Father knows the Son. And no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son is willing to reveal him.
28 “Come to me, all who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. 29 Place my yoke [a] over your shoulders, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble. Then you will find rest for yourselves 30 because my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

11 Khi Đức Giê-su dặn bảo mười hai môn đệ xong, Ngài đi ra dạy dỗ và truyền giảng trong các thành phố của họ.
Các Sứ Giả Của Giăng Báp-tít(A)
2 Giăng ở trong ngục nghe về các việc làm của Chúa Cứu Thế, 3 bèn sai môn đệ mình đến hỏi Ngài: “Có phải Thầy là Đấng sẽ đến hay chúng tôi phải đợi Đấng khác?”
4 Đức Giê-su đáp: “Hãy đi nói cho Giăng những gì các anh em nghe và thấy. 5 Người mù được thấy, kẻ què được đi, người phung được sạch, kẻ điếc được nghe, người chết sống lại và kẻ nghèo được nghe giảng Phúc Âm. 6 Phước cho ai không vấp phạm vì Ta.”
7 Khi môn đệ Giăng ra về, Đức Giê-su bắt đầu phán với đám đông về Giăng: “Các con vào đồng hoang để xem gì? Có phải xem cây sậy bị gió lay không? 8 Thế các con đi xem gì nữa? Người mặc nhung lụa gấm vóc ư? Người mặc nhung lụa gấm vóc thường ở trong cung vua. 9 Thế các con đi xem gì nữa? Một vị tiên tri ư? Phải, Ta bảo các con, có một vị cao trọng hơn tiên tri nữa, 10 đây là lời viết về người:
‘Này chính Ta sai sứ giả Ta đi trước mặt con;
Người sẽ dọn đường sẵn cho con.’[a]
11 Thật Ta bảo các con, giữa vòng những kẻ do đàn bà sinh ra không ai lớn hơn Giăng Báp-tít, nhưng người nhỏ nhất trong Nước Thiên Đàng còn lớn hơn ông ta. 12 Từ ngày Giăng Báp-tít giảng dạy cho đến nay, Nước Thiên Đàng bị cưỡng ép dữ dội và những kẻ hung bạo muốn chiếm đoạt nước ấy. 13 Vì tất cả tiên tri và Kinh Luật đã báo trước cho đến thời Giăng. 14 Nếu các con muốn nhận biết, thì ông là hiện thân của tiên tri Ê-li, nhân vật phải đến. 15 Ai có tai để nghe, hãy lắng nghe.
16 Ta sẽ ví thế hệ này với gì? Họ giống như trẻ con ngồi nơi phố chợ réo gọi nhau:
17 ‘Bọn tao thổi sáo,
Mà sao bay không nhảy múa?
Bọn tao hát nhạc buồn
Mà sao bay không khóc lóc kêu than?’
18 Vì Giăng đã đến, kiêng ăn cữ rượu, thì người ta nói ‘ông bị quỷ ám.’ 19 Con Người đến ăn uống, người ta lại bảo: ‘Ông ta ham ăn mê uống, say sưa, kết bạn với phường thu thuế và người tội lỗi.’ Nhưng sự khôn ngoan được biện minh bằng việc làm.”
Dân Các Thành Phố Vô Tín(B)
20 Sau đó, Đức Giê-su bắt đầu quở trách dân những thành đã chứng kiến rất nhiều phép lạ của Ngài, nhưng vẫn không ăn năn tội: 21 “Khốn cho ngươi, thành Cô-ra-xin! Khốn cho ngươi, thành Bết-sai-đa! Vì nếu những phép lạ đã thực hiện nơi các ngươi được làm tại thành Ty-rơ và Si-đôn, thì họ đã mặc áo gai, rắc tro lên đầu, bày tỏ lòng ăn năn hối cải từ lâu rồi. 22 Vậy nên Ta bảo các ngươi, đến ngày phán xét, hai thành Ty-rơ và Si-đôn sẽ bị phạt nhẹ hơn các ngươi. 23 Còn ngươi, thành Ca-pha-na-um, ngươi không được nâng lên tận trời đâu, nhưng sẽ bị hạ xuống Âm Phủ. Vì nếu các phép lạ thực hiện nơi ngươi được làm tại thành Sô-đôm, thì nó vẫn còn đến ngày nay. 24 Vậy nên Ta bảo các ngươi, đến ngày phán xét vùng Sô-đôm sẽ bị phạt nhẹ hơn các ngươi.”
Hãy Đến Với Ta Và Yên Nghỉ(C)
25 Lúc ấy, Đức Giê-su cầu nguyện: “Thưa Cha, con cảm ơn Cha là Chúa tể trời đất, vì Cha đã giấu những điều này đối với những người khôn ngoan, thông thái, nhưng bày tỏ cho những kẻ bé mọn. 26 Vâng, thưa Cha vì điều này đẹp ý Cha.
27 Cha Ta đã ban mọi sự cho Ta. Không ai biết Con ngoại trừ Cha, cũng không ai biết Cha ngoại trừ Con và những kẻ mà Con muốn bày tỏ cho họ.
28 Hỡi những kẻ mệt mỏi và nặng gánh ưu tư, hãy đến cùng Ta. Ta sẽ cho các con được yên nghỉ. 29 Hãy mang ách của Ta và học theo Ta, thì tâm hồn các con sẽ tìm được yên nghỉ, vì Ta có lòng dịu hiền và khiêm tốn, 30 vì ách Ta dễ chịu và gánh Ta nhẹ nhàng.”

Jesus and John the Baptist(A)
11 After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples,(B) he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee.[a]
2 When John,(C) who was in prison,(D) heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples 3 to ask him, “Are you the one who is to come,(E) or should we expect someone else?”
4 Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy[b] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.(F) 6 Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”(G)
7 As John’s(H) disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness(I) to see? A reed swayed by the wind? 8 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces. 9 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet?(J) Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 This is the one about whom it is written:
11 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence,[d] and violent people have been raiding it. 13 For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.(M) 14 And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come.(N) 15 Whoever has ears, let them hear.(O)
16 “To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:
17 “‘We played the pipe for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge,
and you did not mourn.’
18 For John came neither eating(P) nor drinking,(Q) and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’(R) But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”
Woe on Unrepentant Towns(S)
20 Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!(T) For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon,(U) they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.(V) 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.(W) 23 And you, Capernaum,(X) will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.[e](Y) For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. 24 But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”(Z)
The Father Revealed in the Son(AA)
25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father,(AB) Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.(AC) 26 Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
27 “All things have been committed to me(AD) by my Father.(AE) No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.(AF)
28 “Come to me,(AG) all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.(AH) 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,(AI) for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.(AJ) 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”(AK)
