Woe to Unrepentant Cities

²⁰^(A)Then he began to denounce the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. ²¹^(B)“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in ^(C)Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. ²²^(D)But I tell you, it will be more bearable on ^(E)the day of judgment for ^(F)Tyre and Sidon than for you. ²³And you, ^(G)Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to ^(H)Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. ²⁴^(I)But I tell you that ^(J)it will be more tolerable on ^(K)the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you.”

Jesus Weeps

²⁸When she had said this, she went and called her sister Mary, saying in private, ^(A)“The Teacher is here and is calling for you.” ²⁹And when she heard it, she rose quickly and went to him. ³⁰Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha had met him. ³¹When the Jews ^(B)who were with her in the house, consoling her, saw Mary rise quickly and go out, they followed her, supposing that she was going to the tomb to weep there. ³²Now when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet, saying to him, ^(C)“Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” ³³When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping, he ^(D)was deeply moved^[a] in his spirit and ^(E)greatly troubled. ³⁴And he said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to him, “Lord, come and see.” ³⁵^(F)Jesus wept. ³⁶So the Jews said, “See ^(G)how he loved him!”
