New American Standard Bible

The Twelve Disciples; Instructions for Service

10 Jesus (A)summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to (B)heal every disease and every sickness.

2 (C)Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, (D)Simon, who is called Peter, and his brother (E)Andrew; and [a](F)James the son of Zebedee, and his brother [b]John; 3 (G)Philip and [c]Bartholomew; (H)Thomas and (I)Matthew the tax collector; [d](J)James the son of Alphaeus, and (K)Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the [e]Zealot, and (L)Judas Iscariot, the one who also betrayed Him.

5 (M)These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them, saying, “Do not go on a road [f]to Gentiles, and do not enter a city of (N)Samaritans; 6 but rather go to (O)the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as you go, [g]preach, saying, ‘(P)The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with leprosy, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give. 9 (Q)Do not acquire gold, or silver, or copper for your money belts, 10 or a [h]bag for your journey, or even two [i]tunics, or sandals, or a staff; for (R)the worker is deserving of his [j]support. 11 And whatever city or village you enter, inquire who is worthy in it, and stay [k]at his house until you leave that city. 12 As you enter the [l]house, (S)give it your [m]greeting. 13 If the house is worthy, see that your blessing of peace comes upon it. But if it is not worthy, [n]take back your blessing of peace. 14 And whoever does not receive you nor listen to your words, as you leave that house or city, (T)shake the dust off your feet. 15 Truly I say to you, (U)it will be more tolerable for the land of (V)Sodom and Gomorrah on (W)the day of judgment, than for that city.

A Hard Road Ahead of Them

16 “(X)Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be as (Y)wary as serpents, and as (Z)innocent as doves. 17 But be on guard against people, for they will hand you over to the (AA)courts and flog you (AB)in their synagogues; 18 and you will even be brought before governors and kings on My account, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. 19 (AC)But when they hand you over, (AD)do not worry about how or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given you in that hour. 20 For (AE)it is not you who are speaking, but it is the Spirit of your Father who is speaking [o]in you.

21 “Now (AF)brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and (AG)children will rise up against parents and [p]cause them to be put to death. 22 And (AH)you will be hated by all because of My name, but (AI)it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.

23 “But whenever they (AJ)persecute you in [q]one city, flee to the [r]next; for truly I say to you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel (AK)until the Son of Man comes.

The Meaning of Discipleship

24 “(AL)A [s]disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master. 25 It is enough for the disciple that he may become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. (AM)If they have called the head of the house [t](AN)Beelzebul, how much more will they insult the members of his household!

26 “So do not (AO)fear them, (AP)for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. 27 (AQ)What I tell you in the darkness, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim (AR)on the housetops. 28 And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather (AS)fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in [u](AT)hell. 29 (AU)Are two sparrows not sold for an [v]assarion? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 But (AV)even the hairs of your head are all counted. 31 So do not fear; (AW)you are more valuable than a great number of sparrows.

32 “Therefore, (AX)everyone who [w]confesses Me before people, I will also confess [x]him before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But (AY)whoever denies Me before people, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.

34 “(AZ)Do not think that I came to [y]bring peace on the earth; I did not come to [z]bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I came to (BA)turn a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 36 and (BB)a person’s enemies will be the members of his household.

37 “(BC)The one who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and the one who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And (BD)the one who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39 (BE)The one who has found his [aa]life will lose it, and the one who has lost his [ab]life on My account will find it.

The Reward for Service

40 “(BF)The one who [ac]receives you [ad]receives Me, and (BG)the one who [ae]receives Me [af]receives Him who sent Me. 41 (BH)The one who [ag]receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and the one who [ah]receives a righteous person in the name of a righteous person shall receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And (BI)whoever gives one of these [ai]little ones just a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.”

10 Llamando a Sus doce discípulos(A), Jesús les dio poder[a] sobre los espíritus inmundos para expulsarlos y para sanar toda enfermedad y toda dolencia(B).

2 (C)Los nombres de los doce apóstoles son estos: primero, Simón(D), llamado Pedro, y Andrés su hermano(E); y Jacobo[b](F), el hijo de Zebedeo, y Juan[c] su hermano; 3 Felipe y Bartolomé[d](G); Tomás(H) y Mateo(I), el recaudador de impuestos[e]; Jacobo[f](J), el hijo de Alfeo, y Tadeo(K); 4 Simón el cananita[g], y Judas Iscariote(L), el que también lo entregó.

Jesús envía a los doce

5 A estos doce(M) envió Jesús después de instruirlos, diciendo: «No vayan por[h]el camino de los gentiles ni entren en ninguna ciudad de los samaritanos(N). 6 Sino vayan más bien a las ovejas perdidas(O)de la casa de Israel. 7 Y cuando vayan, prediquen diciendo: “El reino de los cielos se ha acercado(P)”. 8 Sanen enfermos, resuciten muertos, limpien leprosos, expulsen demonios; de gracia[i]recibieron, den de gracia[j].

9 »(Q) No se provean de oro, ni de plata, ni de cobre para llevar en sus cintos, 10 ni de alforja[k]para el camino, ni de dos túnicas[l], ni de sandalias, ni de bordón; porque el obrero es digno de su sostén[m](R). 11 En cualquier ciudad o aldea donde entren, averigüen quién es digno en ella, y quédense allí hasta que se marchen. 12 Al entrar en la casa, denle su saludo de paz(S). 13 Y si la casa es digna, que su saludo de paz venga sobre ella; pero si no es digna, que su saludo de paz se vuelva a ustedes. 14 Cualquiera que no los reciba ni oiga sus palabras, al salir de esa casa o de esa ciudad, sacudan el polvo de sus pies(T). 15 En verdad les digo que en el día del juicio(U)será más tolerable el castigo(V)para la tierra de Sodoma y Gomorra(W)que para esa ciudad.

Advertencias a los doce

16 »Miren, Yo los envío como ovejas en medio de lobos(X) ; por tanto, sean[n] astutos como las serpientes(Y) e inocentes como las palomas(Z) . 17 Pero cuídense de los hombres, porque los entregarán a los tribunales[o](AA)y los azotarán en sus sinagogas(AB); 18 y hasta serán llevados delante de gobernadores y reyes por Mi causa, como un testimonio a ellos y a los gentiles. 19 (AC)Pero cuando los entreguen, no se preocupen de cómo o qué hablarán; porque a esa hora se les dará lo que habrán de hablar(AD). 20 Porque no son ustedes los que hablan, sino el Espíritu de su Padre que habla en ustedes(AE).

21 »El hermano entregará a la muerte al hermano, y el padre al hijo(AF) ; y los hijos se levantarán contra los padres(AG) , y les causarán la muerte[p] . 22 Y serán odiados de todos por causa de Mi nombre(AH), pero el que persevere hasta el fin, ese será salvo(AI). 23 Pero cuando los persigan en esta ciudad, huyan a la otra(AJ); porque en verdad les digo, que no terminarán de recorrer las ciudades de Israel antes que venga el Hijo del Hombre(AK).

24 »Un discípulo[q] no está por encima del maestro, ni un siervo por encima de su señor(AL) . 25 Le basta al discípulo llegar a ser como su maestro, y al siervo como su señor. Si al dueño de la casa(AM)lo han llamado Beelzebú(AN), ¡cuánto más a los de su casa!

26 »(AO) Así que no les tengan miedo, porque nada hay encubierto que no haya de ser revelado, ni oculto que no haya de saberse(AP) . 27 Lo que les digo en la oscuridad, háblenlo en la luz(AQ); y lo que oyen al oído, proclámenlo desde las azoteas(AR). 28 No teman a los que matan el cuerpo, pero no pueden matar el alma; más bien teman a Aquel(AS)que puede hacer perecer[r]tanto el alma como el cuerpo en el infierno[s](AT). 29 ¿No se venden dos pajarillos[t]por una monedita(AU)? Y sin embargo, ni uno de ellos caerá a tierra sin permitirlo el Padre[u]. 30 Y hasta los cabellos de la cabeza de ustedes están todos contados(AV). 31 Así que no teman; ustedes valen más que muchos pajarillos[v](AW).

32 »Por tanto, todo el que me[w] confiese delante de los hombres, Yo también lo[x] confesaré delante de Mi Padre que está en los cielos(AX) . 33 Pero cualquiera que me niegue delante de los hombres(AY), Yo también lo negaré delante de Mi Padre que está en los cielos.

El costo del discipulado

34 »(AZ) No piensen que vine a traer[y] paz a la tierra; no vine a traer[z] paz, sino espada. 35 Porque vine a poner al hombre contra su padre, a la hija contra su madre, y a la nuera contra su suegra(BA); 36 y los enemigos del hombre serán los de su misma casa(BB).

37 »El que ama al padre o a la madre más que a Mí, no es digno de Mí; y el que ama al hijo o a la hija más que a Mí, no es digno de Mí(BC) . 38 Y el que no toma su cruz y sigue en pos de Mí, no es digno de Mí(BD). 39 El que ha hallado su vida, la perderá; y el que ha perdido su vida por Mi causa, la hallará(BE).

40 »El que los recibe a ustedes, me recibe a Mí(BF) ; y el que me recibe a Mí, recibe al que me envió(BG) . 41 El que recibe a un profeta como[aa]profeta, recibirá recompensa de profeta; y el que recibe a un justo como[ab]justo, recibirá recompensa de justo(BH). 42 Y cualquiera que como[ac]discípulo dé a beber aunque solo sea un vaso de agua fría a uno de estos pequeños[ad], en verdad les digo que no perderá su recompensa(BI)».

差遣十二使徒(A)

10 耶稣叫了十二门徒来，赐给他们胜过污灵的权柄，可以赶出污灵和医治各种疾病、各种病症。 2 十二使徒的名字如下：为首的是西门（又名彼得），西门的弟弟安得烈，西庇太的儿子雅各，雅各的弟弟约翰， 3 腓力，巴多罗迈，多马，税吏马太，亚勒腓的儿子雅各，达太， 4 激进派的西门，和出卖耶稣的加略人犹大。 5 耶稣差遣这十二个人出去，并且嘱咐他们：“外族人的路，你们不要走，撒玛利亚人的城，你们也不要进； 6 却要到以色列家的迷羊那里去。 7 你们要一边走一边宣扬说：‘天国近了。’ 8 要医治有病的，叫死人复活，洁净患痲风的，赶出污鬼。你们白白地得来，也应当白白地给人。 9 你们腰袋里不要带金、银、铜钱； 10 路上不要带行囊，也不要带两件衣裳，不要带鞋或手杖，因为作工的理当得到供应。 11 你们无论进哪一座城哪一个村，都要打听谁配接待你们，就住在那里，直到离去。 12 到他家里的时候，要向他们问安； 13 如果这家是配得的，你们的平安就必临到他们；如果这家不配得，你们的平安仍归你们。 14 如果有人不接待你们，不听你们的话，你们离开那一家那一城的时候，就要把脚上的灰尘跺下去。 15 我实在告诉你们，在审判的日子，所多玛和蛾摩拉所受的，比那城还轻呢。

使徒会遭受迫害(B)

16 “现在，我差派你们出去，好象羊进到狼群中间；所以你们要像蛇一样机警，像鸽子一样纯洁。 17 你们要小心，因为有人要把你们送交公议会，并要在会堂里鞭打你们； 18 你们为我的缘故，也要被带到统治者和君王面前，向他们和外族人作见证。 19 你们被捕的时候，用不着担心说甚么和怎么说，因为那时你们必得着当说的话； 20 因为说话的不是你们，而是你们的父的灵，是他在你们里面说话。 21 弟兄要出卖弟兄，父亲要出卖儿女，甚至把他们置于死地；儿女要悖逆父母，害死他们。 22 你们为我的名，要被众人恨恶，然而坚忍到底的必然得救。 23 如果有人在这城迫害你们，就逃到别的城去。我实在告诉你们，你们还没有走遍以色列的各城，人子就来到了。

24 “学生不能胜过老师，奴仆也不能胜过主人。 25 学生若能像老师一样，奴仆若能像主人一样，也就够了。如果一家之主也被称为别西卜（“别西卜”是鬼王的名字），何况他的家人呢？

应该怕谁(C)

26 “所以不要怕他们。没有甚么掩盖的事不被揭露，也没有甚么秘密是人不知道的。 27 我在暗处告诉你们的，你们要在明处讲出来；你们听见的耳语，要在房顶上宣扬出来。 28 那些杀身体却不能杀灵魂的，不要怕他们；倒要怕那位能把灵魂和身体都投入地狱里的。 29 两只麻雀不是卖一个大钱吗？但你们的父若不许可，一只也不会掉在地上。 30 甚至你们的头发都一一数过了。 31 所以不要怕，你们比许多麻雀贵重得多呢。

32 “凡在人面前承认我的，我在我天父面前也要承认他； 33 在人面前不认我的，我在我天父面前也要不认他。

作门徒的代价(D)

34 “你们不要以为我来了，是要给地上带来和平；我并没有带来和平，却带来刀剑， 35 因为我来了是要叫人分裂：

人与父亲作对，

女儿与母亲作对，

媳妇与婆婆作对，

36 人的仇敌就是自己的家人。

37 爱父母过于爱我的，不配作属我的；爱儿女过于爱我的，不配作属我的； 38 凡不背起自己的十字架来跟从我的，也不配作属我的。 39 顾惜自己生命的，必要丧掉生命；但为我牺牲生命的，必要得着生命。

得赏赐(E)

40 “接待你们的，就是接待我；接待我的，就是接待那差我来的。 41 因先知的名接待先知的，必得先知所得的赏赐；因义人的名接待义人的，必得义人所得的赏赐。 42 无论谁因门徒的名，只把一杯凉水给这些微不足道的人中的一个喝，我实在告诉你们，他决不会得不到他的赏赐。”
