⁴¹ Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous,

⁵ Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you do for the brothers and sisters, even though they are strangers to you;^{(A) 6} they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on in a manner worthy of God,^{(B) 7} for they began their journey for the sake of Christ,^[a] accepting no support from nonbelievers.^{[b](C) 8} Therefore we ought to support such people, so that we may become coworkers with the truth.

¹⁶ He said, “At this season, in due time, you shall embrace a son.” She replied, “No, my lord, O man of God; do not deceive your servant.”^(A)

¹⁷ The woman conceived and bore a son at that season, in due time, as Elisha had declared to her.

¹⁰ For God is not unjust; he will not overlook your work and the^[a] love that you showed for his sake^[b] in serving the saints, as you still do.^(A)

Elisha Raises the Shunammite’s Son

⁸ One day Elisha was passing through Shunem, where a wealthy woman lived, who urged him to have a meal. So whenever he passed that way, he would stop there for a meal.^{(A) 9} She said to her husband, “Look, I am sure that this man who regularly passes our way is a holy man of God.^{(B) 10} Let us make a small roof chamber with walls and put there for him a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp, so that he can stay there whenever he comes to us.”

⁸ Be on your guard, so that you do not lose what we^[a] have worked for but may receive a full reward.^(A)

¹³ But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.^{(A) 14} And you will be blessed because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

³² When Elisha came into the house, he saw the child lying dead on his bed. ³³ So he went in and closed the door on the two of them and prayed to the Lord.^{(A) 34} Then he got up on the bed^[a] and lay upon the child, putting his mouth upon his mouth, his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands, and while he lay bent over him, the flesh of the child became warm.^{(B) 35} He got down, walked once to and fro in the room, then got up again and bent over him; the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.^{(C) 36} Elisha^[b] summoned Gehazi and said, “Call the Shunammite woman.” So he called her. When she came to him, he said, “Take your son.” ³⁷ She came and fell at his feet, bowing to the ground; then she took her son and left.^(D)

³ Ahab summoned Obadiah, who was in charge of the palace. (Now Obadiah revered the Lord greatly; ⁴ when Jezebel was killing off the prophets of the Lord, Obadiah took a hundred prophets, hid them fifty to a cave, and provided them with bread and water.)^(A)
