³⁸ He who doesn’t take his cross and follow after me isn’t worthy of me. ³⁹ He who seeks his life will lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.

²⁵ But Jesus summoned them, and said, “You know that the rulers of the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. ²⁶ It shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be^[a] your servant. ²⁷ Whoever desires to be first among you shall be your bondservant, ²⁸ even as the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

²⁴ Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. ²⁵ For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it.

³⁴ He called the multitude to himself with his disciples, and said to them, “Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. ³⁵ For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life for my sake and the sake of the Good News will save it.

²³ He said to all, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross,^[a] and follow me. ²⁴ For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever will lose his life for my sake, will save it.

³³ Whoever seeks to save his life loses it, but whoever loses his life preserves it.

²⁵ He who loves his life will lose it. He who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life.

¹³ Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

¹³ For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

¹⁵ He died for all, that those who live should no longer live to themselves, but to him who for their sakes died and rose again.
