32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others,(A) I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.(B)
34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn
“‘a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law(C)—
36 a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’[a](D)
37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.(E) 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.(F) 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.(G)

Not Peace, but Trouble
(Luke 12.51-53; 14.26,27)
34 Don't think I came to bring peace to the earth! I came to bring trouble, not peace. 35 (B) I came to turn sons against their fathers, daughters against their mothers, and daughters-in-law against their mothers-in-law. 36 Your worst enemies will be in your own family.
37 (C) If you love your father or mother or even your sons and daughters more than me, you are not fit to be my disciples. 38 (D) And unless you are willing to take up your cross and follow me, you are not fit to be my disciples. 39 (E) If you try to save your life, you will lose it. But if you give it up for me, you will surely find it.
