^22 (A)All this took place ^(B)to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:

(which means, God ^(E)with us).

The Word Became Flesh

1 ^(A)In the beginning was ^(B)the Word, and ^(C)the Word was with God, and ^(D)the Word was God. ² He was in the beginning with God. ^3 (E)All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. ^4 (F)In him was life,^[a] and ^(G)the life was the light of men. ^5 (H)The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

¹⁰ Do you not believe that ^(A)I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you ^(B)I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. ¹¹ Believe me that ^(C)I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else ^(D)believe on account of the works themselves.

¹² “Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(E)whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I ^(F)am going to the Father. ^13 (G)Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that ^(H)the Father may be glorified in the Son. ^14 (I)If you ask me^[a] anything in my name, I will do it.

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

^15 (J)“If you love me, you will ^(K)keep my commandments. ¹⁶ And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another ^(L)Helper,^[b] to be with you forever, ¹⁷ even ^(M)the Spirit of truth, ^(N)whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and ^(O)will be^[c] in you.

¹⁸ “I will not leave you as orphans; ^(P)I will come to you. ^19 (Q)Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but ^(R)you will see me. ^(S)Because I live, you also will live. ^20 (T)In that day you will know that ^(U)I am in my Father, and ^(V)you in me, and ^(W)I in you. ^21 (X)Whoever has my commandments and ^(Y)keeps them, he it is who loves me. And ^(Z)he who loves me ^(AA)will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and ^(AB)manifest myself to him.” ^22 (AC)Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it ^(AD)that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” ²³ Jesus answered him, ^(AE)“If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and ^(AF)we will come to him and ^(AG)make our home with him. ²⁴ Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And ^(AH)the word that you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.

²⁵ “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. ²⁶ But the ^(AI)Helper, the Holy Spirit, ^(AJ)whom the Father will send in my name, ^(AK)he will teach you all things and ^(AL)bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. ^27 (AM)Peace I leave with you; ^(AN)my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. ^(AO)Let not your hearts be troubled, neither ^(AP)let them be afraid. ^28 (AQ)You heard me say to you, ^(AR)‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I ^(AS)am going to the Father, for ^(AT)the Father is greater than I. ²⁹ And ^(AU)now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe. ³⁰ I will no longer talk much with you, for ^(AV)the ruler of this world is coming. ^(AW)He has no claim on me,

³ For ^(A)I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died ^(B)for our sins ^(C)in accordance with the Scriptures, ⁴ that he was buried, that he was raised ^(D)on the third day ^(E)in accordance with the Scriptures,

³ concerning his Son, ^(A)who was descended from David^{[a] (B)}according to the flesh ⁴ and ^(C)was declared to be the Son of God ^(D)in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,

⁹ And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, ^(A)he was lifted up, and ^(B)a cloud took him out of their sight. ¹⁰ And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, ^(C)two ^(D)men stood by them in ^(E)white robes, ¹¹ and said, ^(F)“Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, ^(G)will ^(H)come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

¹⁴ to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until ^(A)the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, ¹⁵ which he will display ^(B)at the proper time—he who is ^(C)the blessed and only Sovereign, ^(D)the King of kings and Lord of lords,

^13 (A)waiting for our blessed ^(B)hope, the ^(C)appearing of the glory of our great ^(D)God and Savior Jesus Christ,
