²⁰ But when he had thought this over, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “^(A)Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for ^[a]the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. ²¹ She will give birth to a Son; and ^(B)you shall name Him Jesus, for ^[b]He ^(C)will save His people from their sins.” ²² Now all this ^[c]took place so that what was ^(D)spoken by the Lord through ^[d]the prophet would be fulfilled: ²³ “^(E)Behold, the virgin will ^[e](F)conceive and give birth to a Son, and they shall name Him ^[f]Immanuel,” which translated means, “^(G)God with us.” ²⁴ And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, ^25 [g]but kept her a virgin until she ^(H)gave birth to a Son; and ^(I)he named Him Jesus.

1 ^(A)In the beginning was ^(B)the Word, and the Word was ^(C)with God, and ^(D)the Word was God. ^2 [a]He was in the beginning with God. ^3 (E)All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him ^[b]not even one thing came into being that has come into being.

The Word Made Flesh

¹⁴ And ^(A)the Word ^(B)became flesh, and ^(C)dwelt among us; and ^(D)we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of ^(E)grace and ^(F)truth.

^18 (A)No one has seen God at any time; ^(B)God the only Son, who is ^(C)in the ^[a]arms of the Father, ^(D)He has ^[b]explained Him.

Jesus’ Equality with God

¹⁸ For this reason therefore ^(A)the Jews ^(B)were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, ^(C)making Himself equal with God.

⁵⁸ Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham ^[a]was born, ^[b](A)I am.” ⁵⁹ Therefore they ^(B)picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus ^(C)hid Himself and left the temple grounds.

²⁴ But ^(A)Thomas, one of ^(B)the twelve, who was called ^[a](C)Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. ²⁵ So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in ^(D)His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, ^(E)I will not believe.”

^26 [b]Eight days later His disciples were again inside, and Thomas was with them. Jesus *came, the doors having been ^[c]shut, and stood in their midst and said, “^(F)Peace be to you.” ²⁷ Then He *said to Thomas, “^(G)Place your finger here, and see My hands; and take your hand and put it into My side; and do not continue in disbelief, but be a believer.” ²⁸ Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”

⁵ whose are ^(A)the fathers, and ^(B)from whom is the ^[a]Christ according to the flesh, ^(C)who is over all, ^(D)God ^(E)blessed ^[b]forever. Amen.

The Incomparable Christ

^13 [a]For He rescued us from the ^[b](A)domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of ^[c](B)His beloved Son, ^14 (C)in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
