Matthew 5:43-48

⁴³Ye have heard that it was said, ^[a]Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy: ⁴⁴but I say unto you, Love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you; ⁴⁵that ye may be sons of your Father who is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust. ⁴⁶For if ye love them that love you, what reward have ye? do not even the ^[b]publicans the same? ⁴⁷And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the Gentiles the same? ⁴⁸Ye therefore shall be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

⁴³“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor^[a]^(A) and hate your enemy.’^(B) ⁴⁴But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,^(C) ⁴⁵that you may be children^(D) of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.^(E) ⁴⁶If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?^(F) Are not even the tax collectors doing that? ⁴⁷And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? ⁴⁸Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.^(G)
