Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Then the devil took Him into the holy city and placed Him on [a]a turret (pinnacle, [b]gable) of the temple [c]sanctuary.(A)

And he said to Him, If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, He will give His angels charge over you, and they will bear you up on their hands, lest you strike your foot against a stone.(B)

Jesus said to him, [d]On the other hand, it is written also, You shall not tempt, [e]test thoroughly, or [f]try exceedingly the Lord your God.(C)
