¹¹ “As for me, ^(A)I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; ^(B)He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

^4 [a]John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness ^[b](A)preaching a baptism of repentance for the ^(B)forgiveness of sins.

⁷ And he was ^[a]preaching, saying, “After me One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to stoop down and untie the strap of His sandals. ⁸ I baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

^16 (A)John answered, saying to them all, “As for me, I baptize you with water, but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the strap of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

²⁶ John answered them, saying, “^(A)I baptize with water, but among you stands One whom you do not know. ²⁷ This One is ^(B)He who comes after me, of whom I am not worthy to untie the ^(C)strap of His sandal.”
