Judas Hangs Himself
27 Very early in the morning the leading priests and the elders of the people met again to lay plans for putting Jesus to death. 2 Then they bound him, led him away, and took him to Pilate, the Roman governor.
3 When Judas, who had betrayed him, realized that Jesus had been condemned to die, he was filled with remorse. So he took the thirty pieces of silver back to the leading priests and the elders. 4 “I have sinned,” he declared, “for I have betrayed an innocent man.”
“What do we care?” they retorted. “That’s your problem.”
5 Then Judas threw the silver coins down in the Temple and went out and hanged himself.
6 The leading priests picked up the coins. “It wouldn’t be right to put this money in the Temple treasury,” they said, “since it was payment for murder.”[a] 7 After some discussion they finally decided to buy the potter’s field, and they made it into a cemetery for foreigners. 8 That is why the field is still called the Field of Blood. 9 This fulfilled the prophecy of Jeremiah that says,
“They took[b] the thirty pieces of silver—
the price at which he was valued by the people of Israel,
10 and purchased the potter’s field,
as the Lord directed.[c]”
Jesus’ Trial before Pilate
11 Now Jesus was standing before Pilate, the Roman governor. “Are you the king of the Jews?” the governor asked him.
Jesus replied, “You have said it.”
12 But when the leading priests and the elders made their accusations against him, Jesus remained silent. 13 “Don’t you hear all these charges they are bringing against you?” Pilate demanded. 14 But Jesus made no response to any of the charges, much to the governor’s surprise.
15 Now it was the governor’s custom each year during the Passover celebration to release one prisoner to the crowd—anyone they wanted. 16 This year there was a notorious prisoner, a man named Barabbas.[d] 17 As the crowds gathered before Pilate’s house that morning, he asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you—Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?” 18 (He knew very well that the religious leaders had arrested Jesus out of envy.)
19 Just then, as Pilate was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him this message: “Leave that innocent man alone. I suffered through a terrible nightmare about him last night.”
20 Meanwhile, the leading priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas to be released and for Jesus to be put to death. 21 So the governor asked again, “Which of these two do you want me to release to you?”
The crowd shouted back, “Barabbas!”
22 Pilate responded, “Then what should I do with Jesus who is called the Messiah?”
They shouted back, “Crucify him!”
23 “Why?” Pilate demanded. “What crime has he committed?”
But the mob roared even louder, “Crucify him!”
24 Pilate saw that he wasn’t getting anywhere and that a riot was developing. So he sent for a bowl of water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood. The responsibility is yours!”
25 And all the people yelled back, “We will take responsibility for his death—we and our children!”[e]
26 So Pilate released Barabbas to them. He ordered Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to be crucified.
The Soldiers Mock Jesus
27 Some of the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into their headquarters[f] and called out the entire regiment. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him. 29 They wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head, and they placed a reed stick in his right hand as a scepter. Then they knelt before him in mockery and taunted, “Hail! King of the Jews!” 30 And they spit on him and grabbed the stick and struck him on the head with it. 31 When they were finally tired of mocking him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified.
The Crucifixion
32 Along the way, they came across a man named Simon, who was from Cyrene,[g] and the soldiers forced him to carry Jesus’ cross. 33 And they went out to a place called Golgotha (which means “Place of the Skull”). 34 The soldiers gave Jesus wine mixed with bitter gall, but when he had tasted it, he refused to drink it.
35 After they had nailed him to the cross, the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.[h] 36 Then they sat around and kept guard as he hung there. 37 A sign was fastened above Jesus’ head, announcing the charge against him. It read: “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.” 38 Two revolutionaries[i] were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left.
39 The people passing by shouted abuse, shaking their heads in mockery. 40 “Look at you now!” they yelled at him. “You said you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days. Well then, if you are the Son of God, save yourself and come down from the cross!”
41 The leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders also mocked Jesus. 42 “He saved others,” they scoffed, “but he can’t save himself! So he is the King of Israel, is he? Let him come down from the cross right now, and we will believe in him! 43 He trusted God, so let God rescue him now if he wants him! For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 Even the revolutionaries who were crucified with him ridiculed him in the same way.
The Death of Jesus
45 At noon, darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock. 46 At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,[j] lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”[k]
47 Some of the bystanders misunderstood and thought he was calling for the prophet Elijah. 48 One of them ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, holding it up to him on a reed stick so he could drink. 49 But the rest said, “Wait! Let’s see whether Elijah comes to save him.”[l]
50 Then Jesus shouted out again, and he released his spirit. 51 At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart, 52 and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead. 53 They left the cemetery after Jesus’ resurrection, went into the holy city of Jerusalem, and appeared to many people.
54 The Roman officer[m] and the other soldiers at the crucifixion were terrified by the earthquake and all that had happened. They said, “This man truly was the Son of God!”
55 And many women who had come from Galilee with Jesus to care for him were watching from a distance. 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary (the mother of James and Joseph), and the mother of James and John, the sons of Zebedee.
The Burial of Jesus
57 As evening approached, Joseph, a rich man from Arimathea who had become a follower of Jesus, 58 went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. And Pilate issued an order to release it to him. 59 Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a long sheet of clean linen cloth. 60 He placed it in his own new tomb, which had been carved out of the rock. Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance and left. 61 Both Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting across from the tomb and watching.
The Guard at the Tomb
62 The next day, on the Sabbath,[n] the leading priests and Pharisees went to see Pilate. 63 They told him, “Sir, we remember what that deceiver once said while he was still alive: ‘After three days I will rise from the dead.’ 64 So we request that you seal the tomb until the third day. This will prevent his disciples from coming and stealing his body and then telling everyone he was raised from the dead! If that happens, we’ll be worse off than we were at first.”
65 Pilate replied, “Take guards and secure it the best you can.” 66 So they sealed the tomb and posted guards to protect it.

3 這時，出賣耶穌的猶大看見耶穌已經定了罪，就後悔，把那三十塊銀錢拿回來給祭司長和長老， 4 說：「我出賣了無辜人的血有罪了。」他們說：「那跟我們有甚麼相干？你自己承當吧！」 5 猶大就把那銀錢丟在殿裏，出去吊死了。 6 祭司長拾起銀錢來，說：「這是血價，不可放在聖殿的銀庫裏。」 7 他們商議，就用那銀錢買了窰戶的一塊田，用來埋葬外鄉人。 8 所以，那塊田直到今日還叫做「血田」。 9 這就應驗了先知耶利米所說的話：「他們用那三十塊銀錢，就是以色列人給那被估定的人所估定的價錢， 10 買了窰戶的一塊田；這是照着主所吩咐我的。」
耶穌在彼拉多面前受審(C)
11 耶穌站在總督面前，總督問他：「你是猶太人的王嗎？」耶穌說：「是你說的。」 12 他被祭司長和長老控告的時候，甚麼都不回答。 13 彼拉多就對他說：「他們作證告你這麼多的事，你沒有聽見嗎？」 14 耶穌仍不回答，連一句話也不說，以致總督覺得非常驚訝。
耶穌被判死刑(D)
15 總督有一個常例，每逢這節期，隨眾人的意願釋放一個囚犯給他們。 16 當時有一個出名的囚犯叫巴拉巴[a]。 17 眾人聚集的時候，彼拉多就對他們說：「你們要我釋放哪一個給你們？是巴拉巴呢？是稱為基督的耶穌呢？」 18 總督原知道他們是因為嫉妒才把他解了來。 19 正坐堂的時候，他的夫人打發人來說：「這義人的事，你一點不可管，因為我今天在夢中因他受了許多的苦。」 20 祭司長和長老挑唆眾人，要求釋放巴拉巴，除掉耶穌。 21 總督回答他們說：「這兩個人，你們要我釋放哪一個給你們呢？」他們說：「巴拉巴。」 22 彼拉多說：「這樣，那稱為基督的耶穌我怎麼辦他呢？」他們都說：「把他釘十字架！」 23 總督說：「為甚麼？他做了甚麼惡事呢？」他們更加喊着說：「把他釘十字架！」 24 彼拉多見說也無濟於事，反要生亂，就拿水在眾人面前洗手，說：「流這人[b]的血，罪不在我，你們承當吧。」 25 眾人都回答：「他的血歸到我們和我們的子孫身上！」 26 於是彼拉多釋放巴拉巴給他們，把耶穌鞭打後交給人釘十字架。
士兵戲弄耶穌(E)
27 總督的兵把耶穌帶進總督府，把全營的兵都聚集在耶穌那裏。 28 他們脫了他的衣服，穿上一件朱紅色的袍子， 29 用荊棘編了冠冕，戴在他頭上，拿一根蘆葦稈放在他右手裏，跪在他面前，戲弄他，說：「萬歲，猶太人的王！」 30 他們又向他吐唾沫，拿蘆葦稈打他的頭。 31 他們戲弄完了，就給他脫了袍子，又穿上他自己的衣服，帶他出去，要釘十字架。
耶穌被釘十字架(F)
32 他們出去的時候，遇見一個古利奈人，名叫西門，就強迫他同去，好背耶穌的十字架。 33 他們到了一個地方，名叫各各他，就是「髑髏地」。 34 士兵拿苦膽調和的酒給耶穌喝。他嘗了，不肯喝。 35 他們把他釘在十字架上，然後抽籤分了他的衣服， 36 又坐在那裏看守他。 37 他們在他頭上方安了一個罪狀牌，寫着：「這是猶太人的王耶穌。」 38 當時，有兩個強盜和他同釘十字架，一個在右邊，一個在左邊。 39 從那裏經過的人譏笑他，搖着頭， 40 說：「你這拆毀殿、三日又建造起來的，救救你自己吧！如果你是 神的兒子，就從十字架上下來呀！」 41 眾祭司長、文士和長老也同樣嘲笑他，說： 42 「他救了別人，不能救自己。他是以色列的王，現在從十字架上下來，我們就信他。 43 他倚靠 神， 神若願意，現在就來救他，因為他曾說『我是 神的兒子』。」 44 和他同釘的強盜也這樣譏諷他。
耶穌之死(G)
45 從正午到下午三點鐘，遍地都黑暗了。 46 約在下午三點鐘，耶穌大聲高呼，說：「以利！以利！拉馬撒巴各大尼？」就是說：「我的 神！我的 神！為甚麼離棄我？」 47 站在那裏的人，有的聽見就說：「這個人呼叫以利亞呢！」 48 其中有一個人立刻跑去，拿海綿蘸滿了醋，綁在蘆葦稈上，送給他喝。 49 其餘的人說：「且等着，看以利亞來不來救他。」 50 耶穌又大喊一聲，氣就斷了。 51 忽然，殿的幔子從上到下裂為兩半，地震動，磐石崩裂， 52 墳墓也開了，有許多已睡了的聖徒的身體也復活了。 53 耶穌復活以後，他們從墳墓裏出來，進了聖城，向許多人顯現。 54 百夫長和跟他一同看守耶穌的人看見地震和所經歷的事，非常害怕，說：「他真是 神的兒子！」 55 有好些婦女在那裏，遠遠地觀看，她們是從加利利跟隨耶穌，來服事他的； 56 其中有抹大拉的馬利亞，又有雅各和約瑟的母親馬利亞，並有西庇太兩個兒子的母親。
耶穌的安葬(H)
57 到了晚上，有一個財主，名叫約瑟，是亞利馬太來的，他也是耶穌的門徒。 58 這人去見彼拉多，請求要耶穌的身體，彼拉多就吩咐給他。 59 約瑟取了身體，用乾淨的細麻布裹好， 60 然後把他安放在自己的新墓穴裏，就是他鑿在巖石裏的。他又把大石頭滾到墓門口，然後離開。 61 有抹大拉的馬利亞和另一個馬利亞在那裏，對着墳墓坐着。
封石妥守
62 次日，就是預備日的第二天，祭司長和法利賽人聚集來見彼拉多， 63 說：「大人，我們記得那迷惑人的還活着的時候曾說：『三天後我要復活。』 64 因此，請吩咐人將墳墓把守妥當，直到第三天，恐怕他的門徒來把他偷了去，就告訴百姓說：『他從死人中復活了。』這樣的話，那後來的迷惑就比先前的更厲害了。」 65 彼拉多說：「你們有看守的兵，去吧！盡你們所能的把守妥當。」 66 他們就帶着看守的兵同去，封了石頭，將墳墓把守妥當。

재판과 처형
27 이른 아침 모든 대제사장들과 장로들은 예수님을 죽이기로 합의하였다.
2 그러고서 그들은 예수님을 묶어서 끌고 가 총독 빌라도에게 넘겼다.
3 그때 예수님을 팔아 넘긴 유다는 예수님에게 사형 선고가 내린 것을 보고 뉘우쳐 은화 30개를 대제사장들과 장로들에게 돌려 주며
4 “내가 죄 없는 사람을 죽이려고 팔았으니 정말 큰 죄를 지었소” 하였다. 그러자 그들은 “그것이 우리와 무슨 상관이 있소? 당신이 알아서 할 일이오” 하고 대답하였다.
5 유다는 그 돈을 성전에 내던지고 나가서 목매달아 자살하였다.
6 대제사장들은 그 돈을 주워 “이 돈은 피 값이므로 성전 금고에 넣을 수는 없다” 하고
7 의논한 후 그 돈으로 토기장이의 밭을 사서 나그네의 묘지로 삼았다.
8 그래서 사람들은 오늘날까지도 그 밭을 피밭이라고 부른다.
9 이렇게 해서 예언자 예레미야의 다음과 같은 예언이 이루어졌다. [a]“그들은 이스라엘 백성이 사람의 몸값으로 정한 은화 30개를 받아
10 주께서 나에게 명령하신 대로 토기장이의 밭을 사는 값으로 주었다.”
11 예수님이 총독 앞에 서시자 총독은 “네가 유대인의 왕이냐?” 하고 물었다. 예수님은 “그렇다” 하시고
12 대제사장들과 장로들이 고소하는 말에는 일체 대답하지 않으셨다.
13 그때 빌라도가 예수님께 “저 사람들이 너에 대해서 증언하는 말이 들리지 않느냐?” 하고 물어도
14 예수님이 전혀 대답하지 않으시자 그는 아주 이상하게 생각하였다.
15 명절이 되면 총독이 백성이 원하는 죄수 하나를 석방하는 전례가 있었다.
16 그때 바라바라는 소문난 죄수가 있었다.
17 빌라도는 모인 군중들에게 “여러분, 누구를 놓아 줄까요? 바라바요, 아니면 그리스도라는 예수요?” 하고 물었다.
18 빌라도는 유대인 지도자들이 예수님을 시기하여 자기에게 넘겨 준 것을 잘 알고 있었다.
19 빌라도가 재판석에 앉아 있을 때 그의 아내가 사람을 보내 이런 말을 전했다. “당신은 그 죄 없는 사람에게 상관하지 마세요. 지난 밤 꿈에 내가 그 사람 때문에 많은 고통을 받았어요.”
20 그러나 대제사장들과 장로들은 군중들을 설득하여 바라바는 놓아 주고 예수님은 죽이라고 요구하라 하였다.
21 그때 총독이 그들에게 물었다. “여러분, 두 사람 중에 누구를 놓아 주었으면 좋겠소?” “바라바를 놓아 주시오.”
22 “그러면 그리스도라는 예수는 어쩌란 말이오?” 그들은 모두 대답하였다. “십자가에 못박으시오!”
23 “이유가 무엇이오? 이 사람이 무슨 죄를 지었소?” 하고 빌라도가 다시 묻자 군중들은 더욱 소리를 지르며 “십자가에 못박으시오!” 하고 외쳤다.
24 빌라도는 아무 효과도 없는 공연한 짓을 한다는 생각이 들었고 오히려 폭동까지 일어날 것 같아서 물을 떠다가 그들 앞에서 손을 씻고 “나는 이 사람의 죽음에 대해서 죄가 없소. 이것은 여러분이 책임을 져야 할 일이오” 하였다.
25 그러자 모든 백성들이 “[b]그의 죽음에 대한 책임을 우리와 우리 후손에게 돌리시오” 하고 외쳤다.
26 그래서 빌라도는 바라바를 놓아 주고 예수님은 채찍질하여 십자가에 못박게 내어주었다.
27 군인들은 예수님을 총독의 관저 안에 있는 군본부로 끌고 가서 온 부대원을 모으고
28 예수님의 옷을 벗긴 다음 자주색 옷을 입혔다.
29 그러고서 그들은 가시관을 엮어 머리에 씌우고 오른손에 갈대를 들리고는 예수님 앞에 무릎을 꿇고 조롱하며 “유대인의 왕, 만세!” 하고 외쳤다.
30 그들은 또 예수님께 침을 뱉고 갈대를 빼앗아 때리기도 했다.
31 그들은 이렇게 예수님을 조롱한 뒤 자주색 옷을 벗기고 예수님의 옷을 다시 입혀서 십자가에 못박으려고 끌고 나갔다.
32 그들은 나가다가 구레네 사람 시몬을 만나 억지로 예수님의 십자가를 지고 가게 하였다.
33 그들이 ‘해골터’ 로 알려진 골고다에 와서
34 쓸개 탄 포도주를 예수님께 드리며 마시게 하였으나 예수님은 맛보시고 마시지 않으셨다.
35 그들은 예수님을 십자가에 못박고 제비 뽑아 그분의 옷을 나눠 가진 후
36 거기 앉아 지키고 있었다.
37 그리고 그들은 예수님의 머리 위에 ‘이 사람은 유대인의 왕, 예수’ 라고 쓴 죄패를 붙였다.
38 그때 예수님과 함께 두 강도도 십자가에 못박혔는데 하나는 예수님의 오른편에, 하나는 왼편에 달렸다.
39 지나가던 사람들도 머리를 흔들며
40 “성전을 헐고 3일 만에 짓겠다는 자야, 네가 하나님의 아들이라면 네 자신이나 구원하고 십자가에서 내려오너라” 하고 조롱하였다.
41 대제사장들도 [c]율법학자들과 장로들과 함께 예수님을 조롱하며
42 “남은 구원하면서 자기는 구원하지 못하는군. 이스라엘의 왕이라는 자야, 당장 십자가에서 내려와 보아라. 그러면 우리도 믿겠다.
43 하나님을 믿고 또 자기가 하나님의 아들이라 했으니 하나님께서 기뻐하신다면 이제 구원하실 테지” 하였고
44 함께 못박힌 강도들도 그와 같이 예수님을 욕하였다.
죽음과 장사
45 낮 [d]12시부터 오후 [e]3시까지 온 땅이 어두워졌다.
46 오후 3시쯤에 예수님은 큰 소리로 “[f]엘리, 엘리, 라마 사박다니” 하고 외치셨다. 이 말씀은 “나의 하나님, 나의 하나님, 왜 나를 버리셨습니까” 라는 뜻이다.
47 거기 서 있던 사람 중에 어떤 이들은 이 말을 듣고 “이 사람이 엘리야를 부른다” 하였다.
48 그리고 그들 중 하나가 재빨리 달려가 [g]해면을 신 포도주에 적셔서 갈대에 꿰어 예수님의 입에 갖다 대었다.
49 그러나 다른 사람들은 “내버려 둬요. 엘리야가 와서 그를 구원하나 두고 봅시다” 하였다.
50 예수님은 다시 큰 소리를 지르시고 숨을 거두셨다.
51 그때 갑자기 성전 휘장이 위에서 아래까지 둘로 찢어지고 땅이 흔들리며 바위가 갈라지고
52 무덤이 열려 잠자던 많은 성도들이 살아났다.
53 그들은 예수님이 다시 살아나신 후 무덤에서 나와 [h]예루살렘에 들어가서 많은 사람들에게 나타나 보였다.
54 예수님을 지키던 [i]장교와 사병들은 지진과 일어난 일들을 보고 몹시 두려워하며 “이 사람은 정말 하나님의 아들이었구나!” 하였다.
55 그리고 예수님을 섬기며 갈릴리에서 따라온 많은 여자들도 멀리서 바라보고 있었다.
56 그들 가운데는 막달라 마리아, 야고보와 [j]요셉의 어머니 마리아, 세베대의 아내가 있었다.
57 날이 저물었을 때 아리마대 사람 부자 요셉이 찾아왔는데 그도 예수님의 제자였다.
58 그가 빌라도를 찾아가 예수님의 시체를 요구하자 빌라도는 내어주라고 명령하였다.
59 요셉이 예수님의 시체를 가져다가 깨끗한 모시 천으로 싸서
60 바위를 쪼아 내어 만든 자기의 새 무덤에 넣고 큰 돌을 굴려 입구를 막아 놓고 갔다.
61 무덤 맞은편에는 막달라 마리아와 다른 마리아가 앉아 있었다.
62 이튿날, 곧 [k]안식일에 대제사장들과 바리새파 사람들이 빌라도에게 몰려와서
63 이렇게 말하였다. “각하, 그 거짓말쟁이가 살아 있을 때 3일 만에 자기가 살아난다고 말한 것을 우리는 기억하고 있습니다.
64 그러니 3일까지는 그 무덤을 잘 지키라 고 명령하십시오. 그의 제자들이 시체를 훔쳐다 감추어 놓고 사람들에게는 그가 죽은 사람들 가운데서 살아났다고 말할지도 모릅니다. 그렇게 되면 전보다 이 후의 일이 더 어지러워질 것입니다.”
65 빌라도가 그들에게 “여러분에게 경계병이 있으니 데리고 가서 할 수 있는 데까지 잘 지키시오” 하자
66 그들은 가서 무덤을 단단히 막아 돌에 봉인하고 경계병을 배치하여 무덤을 안전하게 지키게 하였다.
