The Faithful Servant and the Evil Servant(A)

45 (B)“Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food [a]in due season? 46 (C)Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. 47 Assuredly, I say to you that (D)he will make him ruler over all his goods. 48 But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master (E)is delaying [b]his coming,’ 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, 50 the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is (F)not aware of, 51 and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. (G)There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins

25 “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet (H)the bridegroom. (I)Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. But while the bridegroom was delayed, (J)they all slumbered and slept.

“And at midnight (K)a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom [c]is coming; go out to meet him!’ Then all those virgins arose and (L)trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and (M)the door was shut.

11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, (N)‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, (O)I do not know you.’

13 (P)“Watch therefore, for you (Q)know neither the day nor the hour [d]in which the Son of Man is coming.

The Parable of the Ten Virgins

25 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like(F) ten virgins who took their lamps(G) and went out to meet the bridegroom.(H) Five of them were foolish and five were wise.(I) The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.(J)

“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’

“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’(K)

“‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet.(L) And the door was shut.

11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’

12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’(M)

13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.(N)
