Perilous Times

15 “Therefore when you see the (A)abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in (B)the holy place—[a](C)let the [b]reader understand— 16 then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. 17 [c]Whoever is on (D)the [d]housetop must not go down to get things out of his house. 18 And [e]whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. 19 But (E)woe to those women who are pregnant, and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 Moreover, pray that [f]when you flee, it will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath. 21 For then there will be a (F)great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will again. 22 And if those days had not been cut short, no [g]life would have been saved; but for (G)the sake of the [h]elect those days will be cut short. 23 (H)Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the [i]Christ,’ or ‘He is over here,’ do not believe him. 24 For false christs and (I)false prophets will arise and will provide great [j](J)signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even (K)the [k]elect. 25 Behold, I have told you in advance. 26 So if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them. 27 (L)For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will the (M)coming of the (N)Son of Man [l]be. 28 (O)Wherever the corpse is, there the [m]vultures will gather.

15 “So when you see standing in the holy place(A) ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’[a](B) spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let no one on the housetop(C) go down to take anything out of the house. 18 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!(D) 20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.(E)

22 “If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect(F) those days will be shortened. 23 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it.(G) 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders(H) to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you ahead of time.

26 “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as lightning(I) that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming(J) of the Son of Man.(K) 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.(L)

14 “Now (A)when you see the (B)abomination of desolation standing where it should not be—[a]let the [b]reader understand—then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. 15 [c](C)Whoever is on the [d]housetop must not go down, nor go in to get anything out of his house. 16 And [e]whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. 17 But woe to those women who are pregnant, and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 18 Moreover, pray that it will not happen in winter. 19 For those days will be such a time of tribulation as has not occurred (D)since the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will again. 20 And if the Lord had not shortened those days, no [f]life would have been saved; but for the sake of the [g]elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days. 21 And then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the [h]Christ’; or, ‘Look, there He is’; do not believe it; 22 for false christs and (E)false prophets will arise, and will provide (F)signs and (G)wonders, in order to mislead, if possible, the elect. 23 But beware; I have told you everything in advance.
