35 Unul dintre ei, un expert în Lege, ca să-L pună la încercare, L-a întrebat:
36 – Învăţătorule, care este cea mai mare poruncă din Lege?
37 Isus i-a răspuns:
– „Să-L iubeşti pe Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, cu toată inima ta, cu tot sufletul tău şi cu toată mintea ta“[a]. 38 Aceasta este cea dintâi şi cea mai mare poruncă. 39 Iar a doua, asemenea ei, este: „Să-l iubeşti pe semenul tău ca pe tine însuţi“[b]. 40 Toată Legea şi Profeţii[c] depind[d] de aceste două porunci.

35 One of them, an expert in the law,(A) tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a](B) 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b](C) 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”(D)
