42 Jesus *said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures,

(A)A stone which the builders rejected,
This has become the [a]chief cornerstone;
This came about from the Lord,
And it is marvelous in our eyes’?

43 Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a [b]people producing its fruit. 44 And (B)the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and on whomever it falls, it will crush him.”

For this is contained in [a]Scripture:

(A)Behold, I am laying in Zion a choice stone, a (B)precious cornerstone,
And the one who believes in [b]Him will not be [c]put to shame.”

(C)This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for unbelievers,

(D)A stone which the builders (E)rejected,

For in Scripture it says:

“See, I lay a stone in Zion,
    a chosen and precious cornerstone,(A)
and the one who trusts in him
will never be put to shame.”[a](B)

Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,(C)

“The stone the builders rejected(D)
    has become the cornerstone,”[b](E)

and,

“A stone that causes people to stumble
and a rock that makes them fall.”[c](F)

They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for.(G)
