²⁶ But if we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the crowd; for they all regard John as ^(A)a prophet.”

¹⁵ But others were saying, “He is ^(A)Elijah.” And others were saying, “He is ^(B)a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”

^16 (A)And fear gripped them all, and they began ^(B)glorifying God, saying, “A great ^(C)prophet has arisen among us!” and, “God has ^[a]visited His people!”

³⁹ Now when the Pharisee, who had invited Him, saw this, he said to himself, saying, “If this man were ^(A)a prophet He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, that she is a sinner.”

³³ Nevertheless ^(A)I must journey on today and tomorrow and the next day, for it is not possible that a ^(B)prophet would perish outside of Jerusalem.

¹⁹ And He said to them, “What things?” And they said to Him, “The things about ^(A)Jesus the Nazarene, who was a mighty ^(B)prophet in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people,

²¹ And they asked him, “What then? Are you ^(A)Elijah?” And he *said, “I am not.” “Are you ^(B)the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”

²⁵ And they asked him, and said to him, “Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the ^[a]Christ, nor Elijah, nor ^(A)the Prophet?”

¹⁹ The woman *said to Him, “^[a]Sir, I see that You are ^(A)a prophet.

¹⁴ Therefore when the people saw the ^[a]sign which He had done, they were saying, “This is truly the ^(A)Prophet who is to come into the world.”
