10 The disciples said to him, “If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry.” 11 But he said to them, (A)“Not everyone can receive this saying, but only (B)those to (C)whom it is given. 12 For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs (D)for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive this receive it.”
Let the Children Come to Me
13 (E)Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples (F)rebuked the people, 14 but Jesus said, (G)“Let the little children (H)come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” 15 And he laid his hands on them and went away.
The Rich Young Man
16 (I)And behold, a man came up to him, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to (J)have (K)eternal life?” 17 And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. (L)If you would enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 He said to him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, (M)“You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, 19 Honor your father and mother, and, (N)You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 20 The young man said to him, (O)“All these I have kept. What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you would be (P)perfect, go, (Q)sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have (R)treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 (S)When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, (T)only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 (U)Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter (V)the kingdom of God.” 25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” 26 But Jesus (W)looked at them and said, (X)“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” 27 Then Peter said in reply, “See, (Y)we have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?” 28 Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the new world,[a] (Z)when the Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me (AA)will also sit on twelve thrones, (AB)judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 (AC)And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold[b] and will (AD)inherit eternal life. 30 But (AE)many who are (AF)first will be last, and the last first.
Laborers in the Vineyard
20 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2 After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius[c] a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4 and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.’ 5 So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. 6 And (AG)about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing. And he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ 7 They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’ 8 And (AH)when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his (AI)foreman, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.’ 9 And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius. 10 Now when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more, but each of them also received a denarius. 11 And on receiving it they grumbled at the master of the house, 12 saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and (AJ)the scorching heat.’ 13 But he replied to one of them, (AK)‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take (AL)what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. 15 (AM)Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or (AN)do you begrudge my generosity?’[d] 16 So (AO)the last will be first, and the first last.”

The one who is able to accept this, let him accept it.”
Jesus Blesses Little Children
13 (C)Then some children were brought to Him so that He would lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, “[a](D)Leave the children alone, and do not [b]forbid them to come to Me; for (E)the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” 15 After laying His hands on them, He departed from there.
The Rich Young Ruler
16 (F)And someone came to Him and said, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do so that I may obtain (G)eternal life?” 17 And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? 23 And Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly I say to you, (N)it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, (O)it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” 25 When the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, “Then who can be saved?” 26 And looking at them, Jesus said to them, “(P)With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
The Disciples’ Reward
27 Then Peter responded and said to Him, “Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what then will there be for us?” 28 And Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the [d]regeneration when (Q)the Son of Man will sit on [e]His glorious throne, (R)you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And (S)everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother [f]or children or farms on account of My name, will receive [g]many times as much, and will inherit eternal life. 30 (T)But many who are first will be last; and the last, first.

8 “Now when (W)evening came, the [n]owner of the vineyard *said to his (X)foreman, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, starting with the last group to the first.’ 9 When those hired about the eleventh hour came, each one received a [o]denarius. 10 And so when those hired first came, they thought that they would receive more; [p]but each of them also received a denarius. 11 When they received it, they grumbled at the landowner, 12 saying, ‘These who were hired last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day’s work and the (Y)scorching heat.’ 13 But he answered and said to one of them, ‘(Z)Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take what is yours and go; but I want to give to this last person the same as to you. 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with what is my own? Or is your (AA)eye [q]envious because I am [r]generous?’ 16 So (AB)the last shall be first, and the first, last.”

11 Jesus replied, “Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given.(A) 12 For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others—and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.”
The Little Children and Jesus(B)
13 Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them(C) and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them.
14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs(D) to such as these.”(E) 15 When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.
The Rich and the Kingdom of God(F)
16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life(G)?”(H)
17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”(I)
18 “Which ones?” he inquired.
Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery,(J) you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’[a](K) and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]”(L)
20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”
21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect,(M) go, sell your possessions and give to the poor,(N) and you will have treasure in heaven.(O) Then come, follow me.”
22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich(P) to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?”
26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”(Q)
27 Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you!(R) What then will there be for us?”
28 Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne,(S) you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.(T) 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife[c] or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.(U) 30 But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.(V)
The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard
20 “For the kingdom of heaven is like(W) a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.(X) 2 He agreed to pay them a denarius[d] for the day and sent them into his vineyard.
3 “About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. 4 He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ 5 So they went.
“He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing. 6 About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, ‘Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’
7 “‘Because no one has hired us,’ they answered.
“He said to them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard.’
8 “When evening came,(Y) the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’
9 “The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. 10 So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. 11 When they received it, they began to grumble(Z) against the landowner. 12 ‘These who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat(AA) of the day.’
13 “But he answered one of them, ‘I am not being unfair to you, friend.(AB) Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? 14 Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15 Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’(AC)
16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”(AD)

10 Jesus’ disciples then said to him, “If this is the case, it is better not to marry!”
11 “Not everyone can accept this statement,” Jesus said. “Only those whom God helps. 12 Some are born as eunuchs, some have been made eunuchs by others, and some choose not to marry[a] for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven. Let anyone accept this who can.”
Jesus Blesses the Children
13 One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him.
14 But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” 15 And he placed his hands on their heads and blessed them before he left.
The Rich Man
16 Someone came to Jesus with this question: “Teacher,[b] what good deed must I do to have eternal life?”
17 “Why ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. But to answer your question—if you want to receive eternal life, keep[c] the commandments.”
18 “Which ones?” the man asked.
And Jesus replied: “‘You must not murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. 19 Honor your father and mother. Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d]”
20 “I’ve obeyed all these commandments,” the young man replied. “What else must I do?”
21 Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
22 But when the young man heard this, he went away sad, for he had many possessions.
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is very hard for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. 24 I’ll say it again—it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!”
25 The disciples were astounded. “Then who in the world can be saved?” they asked.
26 Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”
27 Then Peter said to him, “We’ve given up everything to follow you. What will we get?”
28 Jesus replied, “I assure you that when the world is made new[e] and the Son of Man[f] sits upon his glorious throne, you who have been my followers will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life. 30 But many who are the greatest now will be least important then, and those who seem least important now will be the greatest then.[g]
Parable of the Vineyard Workers
20 “For the Kingdom of Heaven is like the landowner who went out early one morning to hire workers for his vineyard. 2 He agreed to pay the normal daily wage[h] and sent them out to work.
3 “At nine o’clock in the morning he was passing through the marketplace and saw some people standing around doing nothing. 4 So he hired them, telling them he would pay them whatever was right at the end of the day. 5 So they went to work in the vineyard. At noon and again at three o’clock he did the same thing.
6 “At five o’clock that afternoon he was in town again and saw some more people standing around. He asked them, ‘Why haven’t you been working today?’
7 “They replied, ‘Because no one hired us.’
“The landowner told them, ‘Then go out and join the others in my vineyard.’
8 “That evening he told the foreman to call the workers in and pay them, beginning with the last workers first. 9 When those hired at five o’clock were paid, each received a full day’s wage. 10 When those hired first came to get their pay, they assumed they would receive more. But they, too, were paid a day’s wage. 11 When they received their pay, they protested to the owner, 12 ‘Those people worked only one hour, and yet you’ve paid them just as much as you paid us who worked all day in the scorching heat.’
13 “He answered one of them, ‘Friend, I haven’t been unfair! Didn’t you agree to work all day for the usual wage? 14 Take your money and go. I wanted to pay this last worker the same as you. 15 Is it against the law for me to do what I want with my money? Should you be jealous because I am kind to others?’
16 “So those who are last now will be first then, and those who are first will be last.”
