And He called a child to Himself and set him among them, and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you [a]change and (A)become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. So whoever will humble himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one such child in My name, receives Me; but (B)whoever (C)causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to [b]sin, it is better for him that a [c]heavy millstone be hung around his neck, and that he be drowned in the depths of the sea.

Stumbling Blocks

“Woe to the world because of its [d]stumbling blocks! For (D)it is inevitable that [e]stumbling blocks come; but woe to the person through whom the [f]stumbling block comes!

“And (E)if your hand or your foot is causing you to sin, cut it off and throw it away from you; it is better for you to enter life maimed or without a foot, than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into the eternal fire. And (F)if your eye is causing you to sin, tear it out and throw it away from you. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into the [g](G)fiery hell.

10 “See that you do not look down on one of these little ones; for I say to you that (H)their angels in heaven continually see the face of My Father who is in heaven.[h]

Ninety-nine Plus One

12 “What do you think? (I)If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains, and go and search for the one that is lost? 13 And if it turns out that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that have not gone astray. 14 So it is not the will [i]of your Father who is in heaven for one of these little ones to perish.

He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children,(A) you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.(B) Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.(C) And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.(D)

Causing to Stumble

“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.(E) Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!(F) If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble,(G) cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to stumble,(H) gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.(I)

The Parable of the Wandering Sheep(J)

10 “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels(K) in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven. [11] [a]

12 “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? 13 And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. 14 In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.
