¹⁵ “But you,” He asked them, “who do you say that I am?”

¹⁶ Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God!”^(A)

¹⁷ And Jesus responded, “Simon son of Jonah,^[a](B) you are blessed because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father in heaven.^{(C) 18} And I also say to you that you are Peter,^[b] and on this rock^[c] I will build My church,^(D) and the forces^[d] of Hades will not overpower it. ¹⁹ I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven,^(E) and whatever you bind on earth is already bound^[e] in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth is already loosed^[f] in heaven.”
