Matthew 13:20-22
New American Standard Bible
20 The one sown with seed on the rocky places, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution occurs because of the [a]word, immediately he [b](A)falls away. 22 And the one sown with seed among the thorns, this is the one who hears the word, and the anxiety of (B)the [c]world and the (C)deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it [d]becomes unfruitful.

New International Version
20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.(A) 22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth(B) choke the word, making it unfruitful.
